Walked in at 11:20 on a Thursday & was told they were closed. I know they close at midnight but that seemed a little early for last call?
It’s a fun vibe for sure. The seating isn’t the best for groups of 4 or more people but if you’re lucky enough to find a limited table for your group size, then the vibe is pretty laid back. The food was okay, some things were great and others average. The drink menu is fantastic of your a fan of tropical rum drinks. I mean if you’re not, you’re probably not stopping in here anyway. Haha

If you like Tiki themed bars, this one is worth a stop in Portland, OR. Very small but the flame 🔥 drinks and cool Tiki Atmosphere are worth it .Most drinks were $16 and they did have non alcohol 🍸 drinks for $10.

It was a cute place. But they wouldn't even let us in
To eat because I didn't have my i.d. I came straight from work
Hale Pele has to be the most popular and well known tiki bar in town. It's definitely a place you'll want to take your rum living island hopping friends to. They cram so much tikiness into this small space that you'll leave wanting to book a trip to the south Pacific.

Had to walk out from this place after waiting for 15 minutes at the entrance, and no one came to seat us. When we tried to take a table ourselves, the bartender asked us to wait outside.
Bad customer service 👎
I was really hoping to have a great experience here for our 11th anniversary. My wife introduced me to Trader Vics in the bay area just a year ago and when we read about this place in Portland as being one of the "best" tiki bars in the nation. We were excited. But then reality set in. A lot of it is Hale Pele, but some is just the environment when it is located. First off, if you aren't being responsible by walking or biking, you will be stressed out by the time you arrive, there is very little street parking and the neighborhood streets are all dead ends, no parking zones, and no U-turn streets, it is completely insane! It opens at rush hour, so if you aren't walking or biking, add one hour to your trip. Okay. Now we have arrived! You walk in and immediately you feel like this is a cool place, it totally looks and feels Polynesian. They have a smoke machine going, incense, great decorations, and an inviting design. A sign at the door says to wait to be seated. (No reservations accepted for parties less than 8) And wait we did... Minutes and not a single welcome or hello or even a notice that we existed. Two bartenders within 10 feet of the entryway... Nothing. No host. There were four small booths to our left, one had a couple in it, three were empty. Eventually one bartender interacted with us and said we could sit at the crowded bar. We said we wanted a booth as it was our anniversary and we wanted to really take in the experience. The bartender replied that they are for large groups only, mind you, each booth could not seat more than three people. This was highly disappointing. We never got the chance to try their food or their drinks or enjoy the experience; we have never felt so unwelcome in our lives in a restaurant... So we left. We then found another tiki bar, back up in Vancouver, and drove another hour through insane rush hour traffic. The tiki bar in Vancouver was awesome and thankfully our night was ultimately saved by the welcoming Wahi Hana staff

My sister treated me to an outing here. Not a lot of food options but what they do have it pretty tasty! The flavor of the kalbi ribs was delicious but chewy. Rice and Mac were some of the best I have ever had. You have to try the crab Rangoon dip and Hawaiian bread (I could rave about them). It’s a great hidden tiki bar. Loved watching them throw fire all over the place. Definitely known for their exotic drinks. I had the rhuby sunset (told the gal to surprise me) and I didn’t think I liked rhubarb until I had it! Was so yummy! It’s a small place but even full it doesn’t feel crowded. Absolutely will be coming back!! Such a fun experience

Don’t bother coming here if you’re person of a color. You would be treated BAD. We came in last weekend, wait was long. And they’ve preferences. Certain seats are allocated to certain group. So, if you’ve been there for 3hrs and are a party of 4. And a group of 6/7 have just walked in, they might be seated first just because the large booth was empty. I waited 3hrs and they were pushing me to buy drinks on that small waiting area with no table or anything. The waiter would keep telling us that there’s 2 people in front of us while providing seats for at least 7 groups that came in before or after us. When I confronted the waiter he was like “Have you ordered any drinks? You can order right here”… I replied with “Umm sorry??? Guess what, no seating, no business”. And he flat out asked me to leave the premises. WHAT??? They just ruined our night.
Oh did I mention how People park their car outside of the bar and order drinks there? These people get drunk and call you names when you exit the bar. They might treat you diff based on your color. Not sure how legal it is to serve drinks on the street in Oregon. It’s just very messed up. And I suspect they served drinks on the street in a car with minors. So, they might be doing not so legal stuff here. This place needs to be investigated and fined.

I came to this establishment a decade ago and it was a pleasant experience. Yesterday was my birthday and my boyfriend brought me here to celebrate. When we walked in to scope the place out and look for seating, a large man aggressively approached us for our ID's. It wasn't a problem showing our ID's, it was his approach that was uninviting and rude. Once he saw our ID's we found a cozy little corner that fit us perfectly for the evening. Once seated we were approached by a woman who was quite assertive and agitated about our choice of seating. She told us that we weren't allowed to sit there, not because it was reserved or anything but because they save the seat for larger groups. My boyfriend and I were confused because the table was quite small. She pointed at another table that was located one foot away from another table with no privacy or comfortable seating. I couldn't believe how rude the staff was. I'm beginning to think this experience was racially driven, as I am Latina and my boyfriend is Black. We sat at the table she pointed out and made the decision that we didn't wanna spend a bunch of money at an establishment where we would be treated poorly all night long. What happened to making your customers happy? Why not let us sit in the cozy small corner? It shouldn't have mattered because we are paying customers. Why not be more welcoming and kind to POC that come into your business? I was very disappointed because I was so excited to come back to this place but after how we were greeted, we don't plan on returning. We ended up going to a steakhouse instead. Perhaps if we were more fair skinned, we would've been treated more respectfully. How sad-
