Delicious. Chicken legs were juicy and crunchy, curry was rich and flavorful, the garnishes were perfect and the roti was crispy and chewy. 10/10

The best food I've had in Portland and a lot of the food there is great. If you can only go to one place in Portland you should go here!

This was a second round when we loved it so much the day before. We made sure to come here before leaving the last day. I went to both locations this one and the other one. This location is smaller, cozy & intimate spot. They have 2 picnic benches outside for the nice weather..This place has amazing southern thai fried chicken, with roti & curry iand sticky rice combo nspired by southern thai cuisine. This spot is like a must try spot!! It's like you haven't been to Portland oregon if you haven't been here..There are lots of street parking available which is quite easy. You walk in and order & pay at counter. We walked in after lunch time on monday and there was no wait. Ihighly recommend getting one of their combos where you can try multiple things!.I got 2 hat yai combo ($20) to share between 4 people, each combo came with a fried chicken leg quarter, wing, sticky, rice, malaysian-style curry & roti (flat bread). it was all sooo good (+ a lot of food for a good price), I was in tears of joy as I'm eating this combo..* roti: hand made tortilla/crepe, its thin and crispy. dip it in the curry & I was wow! The curry sauce is like crack and you just can't stop eating it.* fried chicken : crispy. flavorful, juicy for fried chicken.and there are fried onion bits which is so good.* curry: spicy, sweet, is so good with the rice and chicken as a dip!.Overall if we come visit a place 2 times during the trip, it's that amazing. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day!

The curry and fried chicken here was amazing. If you’re a cabbage lover— the side of cabbage is divine. We also got their duck special which was just a little too hot for me. I’d love to come back and try some more. I’ve never had Roti (kind of like a flaky naan) before but I really liked it.

Most thai places tend to do the traditional yellow, red, green curries with pad thai and drunken noodles. And to a degree this place offers those too. But they genuinely have thai dishes I haven't had anywhere else that are absolutely delicious. Their beef cheek curry and roti set it served at this location only but its just amazing very savory and i really like the crisp of the roti and tang of the pickled veggies served on the side to help cut thru the meaty savory flavors. I've had their ox tail soup, brisket curry, muu Hong and pad thai too. All were delicious however their oxtail soup did catch me by surprise its not savory and heart as much as it's got the astringent tang and sourness you'd expect from a tom kha soup, minus the coconut, I still enjoyed it.

Oh, man, let me tell you, everything in this place was absolutely amazing! I mean, I couldn't resist ordering the wings, the steak skewers, and the curry with roti. And let me tell you, they were all incredibly delicious! Like, seriously, my taste buds were dancing with joy. It was an absolute feast of flavors, recommended!!!

Turmeric curry wasn't very spicy but good and flavorful. Chicken wings were crispy and nice. Pad Thai noodles were good too.The service was quick despite the evening rush hours.

I’ve eaten a lot of chicken wings, all across the United States. I can easily put Hat Yai’s into the top 5 I e ever had. They are fried crispy with the meat left succulent and tender. The outside is coated with shallots and coriander seed, a damn fine combination. If you were a fan of pok pok’s Ike’s wings, you should absolutely come on by. Not a clone by any means, but in the same vein.

Got the Hat Yai for 2 with my partner and it was surprisingly filling for how it looked! It was our first time dining here and the food was amazing. Presentation, flavors, textures were all so great. But of a small location but it’s very cozy and feels very lowkey and homey. Will definitely have to come back to try the specialty dishes and coconut mango horchata!!

Really delicious fried chicken. Very moist, skin is fried to a crisp, and basically falls off the bone. Roti and curry is delicious. We also got the southern pad Thai and it's good, but somewhat deconstructed and not knock-your-socks-off. I should have tried either the brisket curry or oxtail in hindsight.

An absolute neighborhood gem! I’ve been obsessed with Hat Yai the moment I tried it. I was HOOKED! I think I eat here like 3 -5 times a month bc I am such a big fan! Zoey and the team are AMAZING! We feel such great hospitality when we come in, I appreciate how Zoey always go above and beyond for us and they work soooooo hard and I take my friends from out of town every chance we get! Chicken love is always in full abundance! my current obsession is ox tail soup and my wife is KP. Crew are sooooooo friendly and mango horchata is a must !

Was staying at the nearby Kennedy school and decided to come by for dinner. It was a nice summer night and both indoors and outdoors seating was available. The menu is simple and I was recommended to go with the standard curry with naan + chicken, which is unlike what I had before but excellent nonetheless. Nice area.
