We visited Johns while going through Portland on a trip. I highly recommend 10/10. We came in with our three year old and our baby and everyone walked away happy. Gyro was AMAZING. Nice short walk from the train station and your bellies and wallet walk away happy.
Kid-friendliness: We got our kids food first before me and my husband's food. 10/10!

I thought long and hard before writing this review. I don’t like writing poor reviews, even when service is less than par. The food is fine, hovering close enough to good that I’ll give it 5 stars. The price, the quality etc.
The owners are unbelievably rude. I work in the immediate area. In tourism and hospitality. I could not have been a more compliant patron. I asked the woman a simple question, she didn’t even look at me or the menu. Which was upside down and not the breakfast menu. I made a very simple order of two breakfast plates and two orders of pancakes. I tipped 25%, made conversation with one of their regular patrons.
All the while the owners glared at me as I was waited. It was an odd, uncomfortable experience. Considering that I am a street tour guide in the area, it takes a lot to make me feel uncomfortable. I was clearly unwelcome and they certainly do not owe me their services.
However, I will not return and I will share my experience with others. Unacceptable business practices. Maybe they would be better suited in bail bonds or a check cashing business where it’s expected to be treated like trash.
For those wanting a consistently good breakfast. I highly suggest checking out Rocket Breakfast in The Hollywood District.
I will always support local businesses. With that said, I cannot support businesses that treat certain patrons like garbage.

I'm being charitable here. Both owners greeted me with a stink-eye. The old lady is rude, yelling and berating in front of other diners. The old man stares you down - if looks could kill. Witnessed clear difference in their treatment of people they prefer to serve and others. If you don't mind paying to put up with this kind of treatment for decent value meals then be their guest.

Absolutely top shelf classic diner experience. By far and away the best thing about this place are Christina and Jimmy, you simply have to stop by and get a cuppa coffee.

John's Cafe was exactly what I wanted it to be -- a no-frills, solid table-service diner with a cup of coffee that tasted like home. The plates came out perfect.
You guys are great, don't ever change.
Note: cash only!

It's been around since 1973, a classic diner with fair prices and delicious food.
Super nice couple that hosts this diner, he is in the kitchen, she does the service.
If you're in the area you just have to support the store

I've come to John's Cafe since Summer 1980. I love this couple! They've worked here six days a week for 46 years.
This feels like an important part of America that's fading away as I watch.
I admire and respect them more than I can ever say.
We all have so much to be grateful for in our country.

Classic breakfast place. Small, affordable, good food. Two of us ate full breakfasts with coffee and it was $24.90. I will be back.

Cash only! That said, great service, great location, and great food. Older style diner with none of the fancy interior design ( which you pay for anyways ).
