Loved this place! Powerful coffee (with beans available for sale) and traditional breakfast, with menu items I have not seen before in Portland. We shared the kitcha and the scrambled eggs, both very tasty! Very friendly service, great spot, unique breakfast experience.
I'm always very opinionated and talkative in my Yelp reviews. I have a lot to say about food. But coffee I don't have much to say about. I dunno how to explain it. I just have trouble with it. The coffee at Koken was fine, I guess. It's strong. But what does that even mean? First I had it and it was pretty strong. Then I asked them to add more milk and it was a little too weak. Great coffee. Strong coffee. Strong and dark coffee, in fact. I loved it.This is an easy place to miss but don’t. This is a great place to grab a quick latte or a bag of freshly roasted beans.There isn’t much space to sit inside. But they do have a couch and room for 2 or 3 people to meet.And best of all…they have an old school suggestion box sitting right out front.I love it. Also, the service has always been excellent.
