Dropped into Mad Greek, been there many times starting back prior to 2000 at the OG Mad Greek location off 185th R.I.P. Pondo. So why review now, well in a word, Shakira (sp) (new employee I think), her enthusiasm and gift for customer service was pretty amazing. I think she is a keeper and if not she can come work for my anytime. Happy Hour$3 beers and $5 gyro's were not only a great value but very tasty. Thank you Shakira and thank you Mad Greek for giving me a great late...
I don't know what happened to this place but it sure isn't what it used to be. Our gyros barely had any tzatziki or feta on them and were really greasy. They used to be some of the best in town! The pondo tots had almost no oregano or lemon oil on them. There were only a few patrons in there and quite a few dirty tables. I actually saw a person have to wipe down a table on their own to sit at it. When the server got to their table, they still didn't wipe it down....
I came here for the first time 13 years ago and the food was amazing. After many visits over many years, I returned today after not dining here for several years and the food still blows my mind. Value for money amazing, the food tastes authentic; hands down my favorite Greek restaurant in Portland. I split a large Greek fries, small Greek salad, and a classic gyro with my wife and we have plenty to eat. Don’t forget the baklava; crispy, flaky and full of flavor!
