What an amazing dinner. Our group of 5 enjoyed every dish and had nothing to complain about. The service was friendly and informative. From the first dish to the last plate it was a culinary experience. There was nothing we didn't like. Can't wait for another opportunity to have dinner at Mae.
So excellent! The food and experience were both amazing, and the chef was extremely nice and informative. Plan for a longer dinner, and definitely go on a date night.
Great Southern fare. Especially the hush puppies!
So I booked Mae on the recommendation from a friend. I really didn't know what I was getting myself into but the first clue is that you make a reservation on Resy. (Very nice restaurants use Resy.) I found out it was a Prix Fixe menu with wine pairings for an additional cost. It is not a cheap night out, we ended up paying about $170 a person, but it was really worth it. We started with a cocktail and chose the $45 wine pairing. Sidebar: the wine pairing was really special, I never heard of any of the wines, but they were all so good, and really thoughtful with the dish choices. The bartender is one of the best. I tried the four cocktails at my table (it's my job as a local guide to be thorough:) and all of them were absolutely amazing. Now on to the food. It was 10 courses and really elevated southern fare. The owner was so sweet, and introduced all the dishes to the table. Seriously great food kept coming to the table, I'm sad I'm not there right now. The atmosphere was intimate and casual, the food was outstanding. Highly recommend for any special occasions.
We went for a tasting menu on Friday night. What a experience! Great service and stories with the food. A pleasure to meet the chef and hear her inspiration and history. Be prepared to eat many courses (all are delightful).
we wanted to try mae ploy for lunch yesterday, and it was great...i began with a tsingdao, and my partner had a sapporo...i had the number 28, veggie stir fry with brown rice, and she had the curry salmon with brown rice....the staff/bartender was real friendly and funny...the food was excellent with no msg....thx so much! Good food & Good service. The price is reasonable. Owner take are by themselves as a chef & waitress. I will be back again.
Finally got to try Mae. Much more expensive than yonder, but also much better. Didn't have a bad dish. Still thinking about the biscuits.
Great food! Good selection of starters, fried chicken, catfish, sides, etc. All delicious!
Best southern food in PDX hands down. Great staff, always an awesome experience.
Incredible food...southern with a twist and great stories....go now and go oftern

If you're looking for a special meal--delicious, belly filling, with a load of warm hospitality and genuine feeling, where you can relax at the table--this should be on your list. The music is porch rocking chair/spooky mountains/toe tapping perfect. The new decor is swank (big fan of the velvet chairs which are actually comfortable), and the lovely ceramics were commissioned from a local potter.
Mae has moved to a new space--like a speakeasy in the back of Maya's restaurant, Yonder. And if the previous reviews are anything to go by, she's revamped the menu, decor, experience, everything. If you're looking for a special meal--delicious, belly filling, with a load of warm hospitality and genuine feeling, where you can relax at the table--this should be on your list.
