Most tender sashimi I've ever had! Delicious food and the kindest owners — Masu Sushi is a true Portland treasure
If you want have an absolutely lovely dinning and dig fabulous sushi, Masu will not disappoint ✨, I have been a customer almost 20 years now.
We have been to one of the sushi restaurants in Honolulu that is rated best in the country and this place was able to hold the same standards. Amazing food.
This is one of my partner and I's favorite spot for Sushi in the city. We consistently book here for special events and anniversaries! The food is always amazing, the service is delightful, drinks are perfect, and its never a bad time!
Best sushi in Portland by far. My favorite Sushi place in Portland, OR by a long shot. It's not cheapest but fair given quality and presentation. It's an experience that combines atmosphere and fine dining. Desserts are amazing also.
Beautiful presentation, very mediocre flavors: lack of balance in nearly every dish, many are heavy handed in acid or salt and missed the delicate interplay that exemplifies Japanese cuisine. Examples: mushroom salad was pure vinegar, scotch eggs tasted of straight ginger (and completely overwhelmed the seafood layer). Rice that came with the curry was dry. Portion sizes extremely modest for the price, but would be acceptable if the bites were better executed. Service was excellent. Ambience tranquil. Dessert delicious.
Incredible experience , inviting ambiance , exceptional hospitality . Thoughtful dishes , the Nigiri and desserts are amazing!
The fish was very fresh, and the service was pleasant. Their menu has a great selection of rolls, sashimi, and kitchen items. The one complaint is that the price was slightly high for the amount of food you receive. But overall it's my favorite sushi spot in town. If you see the mushroom salad on the specialty menu, you HAVE to get it. By far the best thing we had.
We have been coming to Masu for many years and this was the visit since the new ownership. Masu has always had beautiful fish and purity was a key for the dishes found there. The menu has taken on a bit more elaborate take on sushi. The signature rolls have a lot going on and might be a bit much for some people. The more traditional rolls were very good and pure. The real surprise to us was after ordering a lovely assortment of nigiri, all of them were presented with toppings, none of which was on the menu. We found this as quite a surprise, especially considering if we are ordering Toro or salmon belly we want to taste the fish not strawberry and Shiso or habanero. None of us were allergic to any of the ingredients but perhaps listing this on the menu would be a good idea. Service was good and wait times on the sushi were very reasonable.
Really enjoyed coming here. Their menu was adventurous and different, which allowed us to try many things we have never tried before. The server helped us a lot since it was our first time there. The drinks were amazing as well! I'll be craving this place for a long time!

We had a most wonderful meal at Masu. We were greeted with kindness, and the food was artistic, artisanal, special. My son ordered scallop sashimi, and it came on. She's a leaf sitting on top of a bed of crushed ice. My role was gorgeous, The sauces were delicious, and we enjoyed every bite. My son wore a hat into the restaurant and put it on the floor in front of us. A lovely woman brought a small table and placed it behind us and put his hat on the table. Very sweet service. I highly recommend this place.
It was amazing. My food took a little bit of time, but I believe it was the owner that came over and apologized and then ended up giving me a beautiful free dessert that her husband created... She was so amazing and even apologize for the warm weather. The sushi was so fresh and amazing that I even took the last few pieces with me to my hotel room. ✨
Amazing experience. Our first time dining with Masu and will definitely will be back in the future. Food was hands down some of the freshest sushi we have experienced lately. Rolls are carefully curated and presented beautifully. Only down side is kitchen service took a little longer than I like, but definitely worth the wait.
My friend & I meet up for sushi once a month. It’s something we look forward to a lot. We both left a bit disappointed.
The food here was good but the service was not. We arrived at 6:30pm on a weekday & our server was nice. We needed some time to decide, and I appreciate that he gave us space, but after he took our order we didn’t see him at our table again until we were paying. It took about 45 minutes to get our food which was nothing complex. I think it was partially due to the waiter also being the bartender. We couldn’t even catch his eye. Someone else delivered the food, which I understand isn’t uncommon… but we had mentioned to the first server that we wanted to order more after the first round. Since he never came back to check on us, I walked up to the bar & ordered it to go. I felt like I was bothering him by asking how long it would take. The table next to us which ordered after us received their food, ate, and asked for a check around the time we got our food. This is the first time in 5 years I’ve left less than a 20% tip.
As for the food, it was tasty. We had sake toro which was excellent. I wish the pieces were a little larger, but salmon toro is my favorite & the flavor & texture were great. Top 3 of my salmon toro experiences. The chef plate with seared tuna was great. I forget the name of the dish (see photo), and the flavor was intense so my friend who likes heavily seasoned sashimi liked it a lot. She said her roll was ok. I ordered noodles to go and when I got home I had a few bites. It was just ok but I know it would have been better if I’d been able to eat it at the restaurant. We had planned to order a few more dishes actually.
I’d like to give this place another shot in the future, but maybe for lunch instead. If I do, I will definitely update.

This restaurant is top notch! Popped in today with a friend who was having a birthday, the service was excellent. Our food from the miso soup, to the sushi rolls to dessert was all perfect! I will definitely find a reason to return!
