Amazing experience. Our first time dining with Masu and will definitely will be back in the future. Food was hands down some of the freshest sushi we have experienced lately. Rolls are carefully curated and presented beautifully. Only down side is kitchen service took a little longer than I like, but definitely worth the wait.
My friend & I meet up for sushi once a month. It’s something we look forward to a lot. We both left a bit disappointed.
The food here was good but the service was not. We arrived at 6:30pm on a weekday & our server was nice. We needed some time to decide, and I appreciate that he gave us space, but after he took our order we didn’t see him at our table again until we were paying. It took about 45 minutes to get our food which was nothing complex. I think it was partially due to the waiter also being the bartender. We couldn’t even catch his eye. Someone else delivered the food, which I understand isn’t uncommon… but we had mentioned to the first server that we wanted to order more after the first round. Since he never came back to check on us, I walked up to the bar & ordered it to go. I felt like I was bothering him by asking how long it would take. The table next to us which ordered after us received their food, ate, and asked for a check around the time we got our food. This is the first time in 5 years I’ve left less than a 20% tip.
As for the food, it was tasty. We had sake toro which was excellent. I wish the pieces were a little larger, but salmon toro is my favorite & the flavor & texture were great. Top 3 of my salmon toro experiences. The chef plate with seared tuna was great. I forget the name of the dish (see photo), and the flavor was intense so my friend who likes heavily seasoned sashimi liked it a lot. She said her roll was ok. I ordered noodles to go and when I got home I had a few bites. It was just ok but I know it would have been better if I’d been able to eat it at the restaurant. We had planned to order a few more dishes actually.
I’d like to give this place another shot in the future, but maybe for lunch instead. If I do, I will definitely update.

The Masu Banana is my favorite item on the menu! The co-owners are exceptional and kind people. This restaurant would be considered Michelin-Star worthy. I used to work at a high end sushi restaurant and have eaten at most sushi spots in Portland; this is the best in town for its category! Their equal competitors would be Mirakutei and nimblefish.
Fabulous sushi - amazing flavors and pairings on the menu. Servers were attentive and provided just the right inputs and suggestions on daily specials. Perfect pacing for an enjoyable evening out!
Super nice and helpful people. Food was excellent. Really good sushi is expensive and while this was not cheap, the prices were at or below market for this quailty. And, there is a lot more than just sushi. If I lived in Portland, this would be my GO TO Japanese restaurant.

Even though the restaurant was slammed, all of the servers were excellent and the food was phenomenal. Charlie did a standout job taking care of us even with a lot of busy tables. The Chu-Toro was so buttery and delicious, and the shishito peppers with miso were exactly the right amount of umami. I'm also a big fan of the rotating sake menu. Definitely a perfect date night spot.

Intricate. From the little soy sauce dishes to the detailed preparation of the food. We were thoroughly impressed and will be back for more.

Okay, don't make fun of me, but this was my first time having sushi. The servers were very kind and attentive, and the food was amazing! The calamari was crispy and flavorful and the gyoza was yummy and beautifully presented. I enjoyed the pearl roll and was so surprised by the incredible flavors. I can't wait to return and try more off the menu.

We dropped in around 5pm - we didn't realize that happy hour was in effect until we saw the menus. Everything was superb - and we ate many sushi dishes. Our server wsd also the bar specialist and he recommended very good and not pricey sake severd cold, masu-style which is a small glass inside of a larget box. The glass is filled to overflowing and symbolizes abundance. We ordered two different sakes and each tadted different. I will definitely return especially for happy hour. An altogether wonderful experience.

Always great but with new ownership by award winning executive Chef Tommy Shin, his wife and family, it is SUPERB! The plates have become works of art and the food is excellent and fresh. They have really broken out of the mold to explore exciting new dishes and desserts. You can feel the energy and passion of this gem in Portland!
