This place is hit and miss. I came in last week for Scooby snacks and they were delicious. I went back a this week and ordered the same thing and it was like they re-fried an old already made order and the Scooby snacks came out burnt and crumbly with the breading burst so the inner portion was burned as well. That was a failure on both the cook and server to send those and serve them. This is not my first hit and miss experience. I've had similar experiences before and didn't come back for quite some time then tried coming back again to see if things had changed. Unfortunately, instead of being called darling or some similar derogatory term by one of the servers (like I did months ago), I got to listen to the servers talking about serving undercooked chicken before my food came out. Yay. Again, it's hit or miss because I had a pleasant experience last week.

Always a great experience at McMenamins, Chapel Pub is a favorite stop for my companys Executives when they visit Portland from Belgium.

Cold burger and fries, watered-down cocktail, AWOL service, in McMenamin’s usual funky decor.

Kind of like a theme restaurant where food and service are not priorities.

Cold food, inattentive service, watered down cocktails that I would wager had no alcohol. At age 63, I know what a good cocktail should taste like. Server never asked how things were going - would have informed him that burger and fries were COLD. Complete lack of effort. Skip this place.

I order pickup from this restaurant about 4-5 times a week, typically getting fish and chips, chicken strips basket, or a burger.
Today for lunch, I had a cheeseburger and fries which was good.
I also ordered a pickup order for dinner (I eat here a lot because it’s right next to my house and I’m too lazy to cook)
I go, and the bartender tells me they are out of fish and chips and they talked to the owner who just said to refer me to uber. I was confused that there was not more they could do because I’m the one that paid for the order.
I reach out to uber thinking it will be easy since the restaurant WAS OUT OF THE FOOD THAT I ORDERED, but they are refusing to refund me without charging me a cancellation fee. I am aghast that I would be charged a cancellation fee when the merchant was unable to fulfill my order.

I have now wasted the time it took to walk to get the order, and 30 minutes in various chats with uber eats,
In my mind, the business should have not accepted the order, should have taken fish and chips off their uber eats portal, or should have immediately cancelled and refunded me when they realized they had an order they could not fulfill.

We dined in with a group of 12 for our department holiday gathering. Pat was very helpful and accommodating through the entire process! He took our orders ahead of time and had it sent to the kitchen before we even arrived. This made for a very smooth and easy group dining experience (rare!). Our group had a great time and we would reccomend working with Pat for group dining/parties.

Got roped into a buy-one-get-one burger special on DoorDash. Clicked the button for well done. Only got one of the two burgers and it was rare. The chicken dish was missing the dipping sauce. Called to let them know and the guy seemed like he could care less, hurriedly said sorry you’ll have to deal with DoorDash. Even if that’s the case, no responsibility was taken and I’m still short a burger. Could’ve at least offered to make it right and have us pick up. It’s too bad because I’ve walked past this spot and it looks super cool, but lost a customer. Shame shame

Full story: there is a Please Wait to be Seated sign inside the door, so I walked around looking for a desk or someone to seat me. After walking the full length of the building, feeling very self conscious, a server finally approached and asked if I was looking for something. When I explained, she laughed and said I had walked past several staff members. So why did they all ignore me? Throughout the meal, every one of them pretended not to see me. Other guests (regulars, maybe?) were greeted warmly.

That already made me feel unwelcome, so when my food was truly terrible it didn't feel like an accident. My daughter's food was fairly thrown at us with a mumbled "Here you go," and the man left swiftly without speaking to us. My $20 sandwich was burned badly and the bun fell apart immediately, which is what buns do when they're stale. The clam chowder seemed to have been watered down to make it stretch, it had the consistency of water and hardly any chunks in it.

Sitting there, wondering if this was purposeful behavior, I recognized the bind I was in. Say nothing, and let the staff feel it's acceptable to treat people this way, or say something, and be branded a b*tch. It's not acceptable to treat customers this way. Politely, I showed the food to the server (who incidentally, was the only staff in the place who was genuinely friendly, I'll give her credit), because they need to know they shouldn't serve food like that.

As we were leaving I saw the bartender, only a few feet away, put his head together with another customer, whispering. The customer then turned towards me to smirk nastily. The bartender was, of course, one of the staff who pretended they couldn't see me. If I experienced only one of these things while dining out I wouldn't think much of it, but all together it's a definite pattern.

Why would you target and humiliate paying customers this way?

Every time I go to a Mcmenamins, I'm reminded of the quality and consistency across all of their locations.

Low lighting, tasteful artwork, beautiful trim and decor, delicious food, sizeable portions, and pleasant staff. Mcmenamins has it all.

Look at the amount of tuna I was given on my tuna fish sandwich! Wow.

The reason for 4 stars is because the bathroom was lazily cleaned. There was only myself and one other person dining in the afternoon here. It only takes a few minutes to restock things and clean up to a good standard.

Jen H. was such an awesome server for our date night tonight. She knew all the ingredients of all food on the line and could recall it easily. It made it so helpful for constructing a dairy free burger. Also, she was very speedy with delivering our food and drinks. The Chapel also has a very cool funky vibe!
