This business was originally called the Wilson-Chambers Mortuary. It was built in 1932 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. This is a cool looking historical building and a must see. The bartender was very nice and told me some of the history of the building. Be sure to check out the food.
I had to walk around for 5 min to find someone to seat me. I had to walk around to find someone to take my order. I had to walk around to find someone to order another drink. The bathroom needs a code, I had to walk around to find someone to give me the code. I had to go find someone to get to-go containers. The staff was hiding in the kitchen. No bartender, no server, no one came to offer service. The food was awful, my salad was rotten. This is the worst McMenamins location I have been to. Perhaps they have list their touch.

Walked out because no one greeted me as I just stood there for 5 mins Made eye contact with a server didn’t come over, very weird vibes in there. Did not feel welcoming.

Really beautiful bar, obviously in an old chapel. You walk in and smell the wood stove that adds to the unique ambiance. Definitely a unique, stop worthy location for a McMenamins location. The staff is always friendly and a pleasure.

Wonderful service and atmosphere. Unfortunately our meal of fish and chips was terrible. Chewy, pre-frozen fish pucks. Could have done better buying our food at the grocery store. Perhaps we just picked the wrong menu option.

22 dollars for 3 little chicken strips and french fries. The chicken strips were the kind you'd get off the back of a truck or in the Safeway freezer section. Underwhelming and expensive. I've had better chicken strips at convenience stores that are a fourth of the price.

This place is hit and miss. I came in last week for Scooby snacks and they were delicious. I went back a this week and ordered the same thing and it was like they re-fried an old already made order and the Scooby snacks came out burnt and crumbly with the breading burst so the inner portion was burned as well. That was a failure on both the cook and server to send those and serve them. This is not my first hit and miss experience. I've had similar experiences before and didn't come back for quite some time then tried coming back again to see if things had changed. Unfortunately, instead of being called darling or some similar derogatory term by one of the servers (like I did months ago), I got to listen to the servers talking about serving undercooked chicken before my food came out. Yay. Again, it's hit or miss because I had a pleasant experience last week.
Always a great experience at McMenamins, Chapel Pub is a favorite stop for my companys Executives when they visit Portland from Belgium.
Cold burger and fries, watered-down cocktail, AWOL service, in McMenamin’s usual funky decor.
Kind of like a theme restaurant where food and service are not priorities.
Cold food, inattentive service, watered down cocktails that I would wager had no alcohol. At age 63, I know what a good cocktail should taste like. Server never asked how things were going - would have informed him that burger and fries were COLD. Complete lack of effort. Skip this place.
I order pickup from this restaurant about 4-5 times a week, typically getting fish and chips, chicken strips basket, or a burger.
Today for lunch, I had a cheeseburger and fries which was good.
I also ordered a pickup order for dinner (I eat here a lot because it’s right next to my house and I’m too lazy to cook)
I go, and the bartender tells me they are out of fish and chips and they talked to the owner who just said to refer me to uber. I was confused that there was not more they could do because I’m the one that paid for the order.
I reach out to uber thinking it will be easy since the restaurant WAS OUT OF THE FOOD THAT I ORDERED, but they are refusing to refund me without charging me a cancellation fee. I am aghast that I would be charged a cancellation fee when the merchant was unable to fulfill my order.
I have now wasted the time it took to walk to get the order, and 30 minutes in various chats with uber eats,
In my mind, the business should have not accepted the order, should have taken fish and chips off their uber eats portal, or should have immediately cancelled and refunded me when they realized they had an order they could not fulfill.
