Worst food, drinks, and service I've ever had in my life. The door guy was an absolute douche. I would recommend going down the street to ANYWHERE else.

Over-priced for what it is, but that's always been the case. Still love me some McMenamins and their great atmospheres.

The staff were all helpful, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I mixed up my booking, and they offered to fix it instead of turning me away. Saved my anniversary! Rooms are clean, and shared bathrooms are huge and very private. Never had to wait.

THE GOOD: As others have mentioned, the primary reason to stay here would be if you were planning to catch a show in the Crytal Ballroom. Location seems lively as well. THE NOT SO GOOD: The hotel is old, smells like a mix of wood stove/urine/weed, has loud music that you can hear up to the top floor, tiny rooms, and mostly shared bathrooms. Also, the hot tub is in the basement and feels a bit clausterphobic, especially when joined by others. This doesn't mean that this hotel wouldn't be enjoyed by those who know all of this going in. Myself, I had no choice since I had to stay with the rest of my group who had already booked it. For hostel conditions, I would have expected hostel prices.

The hotel and the neighborhood has a pleasant up beat vibe. All the rooms are individually and imaginatively decorated. We had a King room with private bathroom, but be aware that most rooms share bathrooms. Ours, the "cocoon too" was on the corner of the 4th floor and commanded splendid views of three streets. It is an old vintage building, so not everything is perfectly straight. The restaurant Zeus was good, with friendly staff. Breakfast is not included, but there are many good items on the menu. BF starts at 8am, so maybe not for early birds. The cocktailbar has great cocktails and a happy bar tender.

Always great to see shows here. Splurge for the balcony - you won't regret it. Private bar.

I stayed here for our 1 night trip to see a show at the Crystal Ballroom. It was perfect! We arrived, unloaded, parked down the block and never moved the car once. We pre-gamed at Zeus—the restaurant downstairs. Our rooms had super comfy beds, cool music themed furnishings (my room Wrecking Ball had Emmylou Harris lyrics painted on the wall), a beautiful bed and chandelier and a handy sink, mirror and fluffy towels and bathrobes. They also provide earplugs if the intermittent street noise is a bother. We never to had to wait to use a bathroom (there are 4 on each floor), so not having one in the room was a non issue. After sipping some complimentary high quality Portland coffee in the lobby, I soaked in the soaking pool (a big long hot tub in the basement) to get myself in the proper mood for the drive home. The Crystal Hotel was excellent! I will be back.

Bath tub in room? No. Shower in room? No. Tv in room? No. No mini fridge either. Hard to imagine lol. Oddly there's a sink. Tell me it's a hostel without telling me it's a hostel . You get a 10x10 dem lit cell with a old firm queen sized mattress. Maybe I missed the fine print, I read soaking pool and signed up. I mean even that was like a social cesspool. Not one person showered before entering. Also they allow you to drink alcohol while using it so people are just in there getting befuddled, sweating and chatting loudly. Not as relaxing as I had hoped. I give it two stars for the benefit of the doubt because maybe I should have read up or asked questions but at that price point I figured I was getting 21st century amenities. I feel like for all things the room didn't come with someone should have said something. Paid $160 & won't be back ya got me

This can be a destintion location. Find a concert at the Crystal Ballroom that you'd like & make a weekend of it by staying at Crystal Hotel. The Zues Cafe has one of the better menus that I've seen at McMennamin locations. We got the breakfast package which is a great deal. We had the Zues Benedicts... delicious! Many cool bars & venues to explore!

It's quaint. It's quirky. It's clean. Safe. Great location and quiet. I was pretty skeptical about the shared bathrooms but it absolutely wasn't a problem. I felt safe and everything was very clean with a gentleman on our floor who was cleaning and checking throughout the evening. We loved to soak pool and took advantage again the next morning before check out. There is a dedicated towel and robe in your room in addition to a bath towel and sink in the room. Would love to return.
