I made a reservation and arrived to discover it was not very busy on a Sunday night. Very nice looking pub style and very quiet (at least on this night). Found the menu somewhat limited as far as selections with many out of my usual likes, but that's just my taste. My wife and I both chose the Crystal Smash burger. I got the tater tots with mine. My wife got the fires. The tots and fries were both cooked perfectly. The burgers were a good size and the beef was very delicious. I really enjoyed the style of bun they use. They serve RC Cola products which I am good with. We are not in downtown Portland very often and this was a new place for us. Overall dining experience was positive. Our server was very pleasant.

Stopped by Hal’s Cafe earlier this month and really enjoyed it. I had the Margherita Flatbread and a Dark and Stormy — both were super tasty. The flatbread was fresh and had great flavor, and the drink was spot on. Service was solid too — friendly and quick. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

Both meals were amazing! Burgers are not my daughter's fave meal but she was really impressed and said it was good. I had the steelhead and it was perfect and flavorful. I will be back if I'm ever in Portland again

Really enjoyed this McMenamins. No wait time when I came and really chill atmosphere
I had a nice breakfast at this McMenamins location. The wait was a bit long, and the eggs were overcooked. The restaurant was busy, though; there was only one cook it looked like. I was compensated for the error. The food was tasty, especially the hash browns. Very enjoyable.

Very confusing place so I’ll explain
Their downstairs is called Al’s Den
The upstairs is Hal’s cafe but it was previously named Zeus Cafe (but they haven’t changed the signage)
Went for happy hour food and drinks
The cocktails were straight up undrinkable. So strong and bad flavors (monkey puzzle julep and the seasonal passion fruit mule)
Meat and cheese board was good
Flatbread was not that good
I liked sitting outside though

We had a relaxing and wonderful lunch here. We sat inside and enjoyed the interesting art and beautiful stained glass. The chandeliers really need dusting but other than that everything was perfect. We shared two small plates that were perfectly cooked and delicious. Wait staff was attentive. Service is a little slow but we weren't in a hurry.

Extremely hostile bartender on 5/8 at 7:30pm (Thomas?). The host told us to order at the bar if we wanted to sit outside. No problem. But when I attempted to follow the host's instructions, the bartender barked at me to order at my table because he didn't have time for me.
What a delightful run-around, McMenamins.
A server eventually showed up at our outdoor table but service was incredibly slow. We were checked on once every 30 to 40 minutes. Our food took forever. Once we're got our food the server disappeared completely and we had trouble getting the check.
Would not recommend sitting outside here. Would not recommend Thomas the bartender either. Would not recommend coming here period.
