Merkato Ethiopian Food Store

I bought enjera twice the first pack was Okay but I didn't like it much, wouldn't complain. The second time was so bad, I never tasted enjera like that, I known the taste of mold enjera but this one literally smells weird and awful, we did ate it for few days, my husband couldn't tell and it didn't upset our stomach or anything, but I hated it was so hard for me to eat. I was doubting is it mold or not? I love enjera and tried to eat it which I shouldn't have tho but i need an answer if its me or they don't sell fresh enjera? I assumed we always gets fresh enjera because people buy all the time n only had to worry of them run out but not this. I went there because its the closest. I really want to know why enjera smells and taste oweful like that. Aside all that, I liked their store they have several things that we can't find many places.

They are number one for me their food is figure liking and with good portion

The owner Yemaneh has been so accommodating. I buy stuff from here to take to my family in California and he has been so accommodating with this and I’m very appreciative. Thanks Yemaneh and team! FYI, this place can be super busy on days they have fresh beef, go as early as you can or you’d be waiting in line for quite a while. This place has decent collection of Ethiopian spices as well as injera that’s gluten free(as I’m told). However, if you have gluten sensitivity, make sure to mention this to them before purchasing as they might have both kinds and you don’t wanna walk out with the wrong one. Happy shopping:-)

Thank you for the mouldy injera. $15 down the drain. 45 minutes total drive waste of time. Heart broken! I’m just a simple girl who was looking forward to an amazing injera lunch. Literally mould on each of the injeras. I was going through them frantically to find at least one with no mould, but still none. ? I really hate to leave a bad review, but what can I do? Please check them before selling next time. For me though, no next time.

They have zero customer service skills. Straight out of the jungle in Ethiopia. I called , first of all there was loud music, no apology for it. Second, the arrogance of the guy who answered the phone is no much in the entire market. Stay out of this rubbish market!!!

This place has good food but they way treating customers are very bad. The front desk cashier doesn’t speak English, I would suggest hire someone speak English fluently, and you can help customers very easily.Bad business practice!Very bad experience.

Wait time 40 minutes to buy anything. Idk what they do back there but they take too damn long.

THE BEST AUTHENTIC ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT IN PORTLAND hands down but they only serve meat dishes and a good grocery store. Most Ethiopian restaurants are for the people that do not know what the real food tastes like and will accept the panda express of Ethiopian food.

Awful people who work there disrespecting a paying customer not to mention someone who spent thousands over the last couple of years and just bought an item that is more than 150 in one day and yet the old man spoke to us with disrespect and like we were homeless??
