Authentic sushi, prepared meticulously.
The food was 10/10, and the service was efficient and polite. Ahh, premium sake, served hot. I highly recommend Murata Restaurant. Reserve well ahead. We lucked out and got a table when another reservation was late.
Authentic Japanese food that rivals most in Tokyo. We got to sit in a tatami room and received excellent service by Japanese staff. So it was like a mini trip to Japan!
THE totally authentic Japanese dishes, hands down! Sushi is REALLY good and they taste very authentic, I was shocked because I never even imagined I could eat this good Japanese dishes (especially sushi) anywhere outside of Japan.
If you want to know what the real Japanese cuisine is, this is the place to show you.
There are 3 Japanese style tatami dining rooms and they’re suitable for a small business meeting or family/friends gathering.
Reservations are by phone only and they’re busy…so be patient. Reservation is strongly recommended.
Incredible experience at Murata! The sushi was served so fantastically well from the exquisite display to the high quality ginger and excellent rice! The Mackerel was so deliciously tender I forgot to take a picture! We'll have to return for the Uni and so many more tasty selections! The cantelope at the end was a refreshing dessert! Thank you for providing a wonderful birthday dinner!
I had the ribeye, and I was really impressed. It was a good cut, cooked to a nice medium rare, and had great flavor and char. The miso soup also got the spot. Definitely will go back and try other options! The staff was friendly and the service was quick.
Crowd seats and not respectful service
WOW. Just WOW.
So FRESH! The service is really pleasant and that most staff speak Japanese is also a huge draw. But, I've tried more sushi than could count in last 30years since first experience with sushi started my lifelong appreciation... and had some great sushi in my time....but this is head and shoulders the FRESHEST I've ever had pleasure to enjoy... That's said, the staff is amazing too....I really will go here first from now on unless just in a pinch...
Authentic!
If you are looking to get out of America for a night and feel more like you are traveling to Japan for a meal, this is the place to go in Portland. Tatami mats were comfortable, taken care of. Staff understood the small Japanese phrases. I had the Tempura meal with miso soup, rice, salad, etc. and all of it was great. Even a piece of lotus root was included in the tempura. One of my favorites I suggest you try.

Absolutely amazing food, we had a tatami room and the service was so amazing and fast. The fatty tuna was so soft and moist, every single thing brought to the table was so flavorful.
Cannot wait to come back again!
Authentic Japanese sushi
Love the Japanese interior design and atmosphere here!
The bluefin tuna-mid fat was melted easily in your mouth. The sushi was fresh and delicious!
The cherry bloom tree on the top of the restaurant was blooming. It made me feel like I was in Japan.
It’s beautiful, traditional Japanese restaurant that really delivers on authenticity. The tatami rooms and sushi bar give it that classic, peaceful vibe, and the food quality is top notch fresh fish, flavorful broths, and well balanced dishes. It definitely feels like a special experience. That said, the prices are on the high side. Worth it for a treat or occasion, but not something I could do regularly. Still, big respect for what they offer you can tell it’s made with care.
Incredibly authentic Japanese food
Incredible experience from the food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality. The food was amazing and ordered an assortment of sushi but the best part was the cozy atmosphere and the hospitality that made dinner there a rememberable experience. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar. I don’t get out to Portland often but this will always be on my list to go to for dinner when I’m out here.
