Very small, cramped, poorly decorated, dirty restaurant from the counter to the restrooms. We’re not dressed to impressed, insulted me during my order, and gave me instant ramen with soy sauce in a quiet building the size of my kitchen with nothing but two tables

Fire 🔥 and large portions
I used uber eats. Lots of food for the price!
However there is no crab in the crab wontons and there is no sweet and sour sauce for all this food. Such a disappointment for delivery as I won't be eating most of it 😕
Alright, let’s get right to it. This place is GAS. Certified GAS. The portions are massive, the flavor is good, and the value is unmatchable. Coming from a hash head who takes his comfort food seriously, this place hits all the boxes for nostalgia, pre-covid prices/value, and that “I just want really good Chinese” type spot. Weary traveler? Get the combo plate. Drunk? Get the combo plate. Stoned? Get the combo plate. Feeling sorry for yourself? Alas, combo plate to the rescue. Can’t speak for anything else on the menu other than the food court style/hole in the wall combo plate style take out trays, but I assure you it’s worth every penny. For context, I am a former 300lb person, the portions here are huge. This is not some 165lb person saying “big portions” this is a former big boy saying “yep, this will get ya there lol”.

Tried New Happy Fortune Chinese Restaurant and honestly it hit the spot. Got chow mein, Beijing beef, kung pao chicken, and crab puffs. Everything was really solid. The Beijing beef was crispy, kung pao had a nice kick, and the chow mein was loaded with chicken and veg.
The crab puffs were probably my favorite, they were super crispy and actually had a good amount of filling. Portions were generous too, so we had leftovers.

New Happy Fortune Chinese Restaurant deserves every bit of a five-star review. My family and I have been longtime customers, and this place has been one of Portland’s hidden gems for Chinese takeout for decades.
What makes New Happy Fortune special is that it’s a generational, family-run restaurant that consistently delivers great food, good portions, and friendly service. In a world where a lot of Chinese takeout can feel rushed or overly greasy, their food stands out. The dishes are flavorful, well-balanced, and not overly oily or heavy. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and preparation.
We order takeout here at least once a week because it’s dependable and always delicious.
Our absolute must-try favorites:
• Crispy Chicken Chow Mein – This dish is incredible. The noodles are perfectly crispy and topped with a savory chicken and vegetable gravy. When you mix it together you get the perfect combination of crunchy noodles and flavorful sauce. Hands down the best crispy chow mein we’ve had anywhere.
• Sesame Beef – Real, tender cuts of beef in a rich sesame sauce. The meat quality is excellent and it pairs perfectly with a bowl of white rice and veggie stir fry. If you know what Beijing beef is, this is way better.
• Crab Puffs – These are some of the best we’ve ever had. Crispy, not greasy, and filled with a perfectly seasoned crab and cream cheese mixture. They come with their homemade sweet and sour sauce which makes them even better.
• Kung Pao Chicken – A great spicy dish with tender chicken, roasted peanuts, and vegetables. It has the perfect balance of heat, churchy, and savory flavor and is fantastic with white rice.
Another reason we love coming here is the people. If you get Jenny when placing your order, she is always friendly, welcoming, and wonderful to talk to.
New Happy Fortune has been part of Portland for a long time, and it’s the kind of family-owned restaurant we should all support. It may look like a simple takeout spot from the outside, but the food quality is better than most Chinese takeouts in the city.
If you love Chinese food, you need to try this place. We’ll continue ordering here and recommending it to friends.
Five stars all the way!

The clerk there was on the phone the whole time, speaking a foreign language, didn't acknowledge us, but left us hanging. We waited for 10 minutes just to pick up the food ordered. Shameful behaviour!
