Rose and thistle is an older punkish? Portlandy? Pub that offers a fun dark ambiance. I only game in for a quick late night drink, but the experience was memorable enough to warrant another trip in the future.

Inside seating is very limited. Lots of outdoor seating, but they allow smoking. And EVERYBODY is smoking.

The bartender. 6 foot 1 ish bartender named Joe was arguably the most rude and worst service I’ve ever experienced.

I was with a few friends and asked for a drink before the last call and he denied me (I assumed it was because they were done serving) but then I saw him serving others.

I approached and asked why, he responded, “I’m done serving you.” I had caused no problems but apparently someone we were with did and he put that on me

Mind you, I’m not drunk and had two drinks over the course of more than two hours as a 185 pound man.

He told me to get out or he would remove me. I did nothing wrong. I’ll be speaking to the owners tomorrow. I’ve never experienced

This place has become my favorite in the neighborhood! Love everything about it. While I have enjoyed everything on the menu... the reuben is king.

The food and drinks are great here, and very reasonably-priced. Their outdoor patio permits smoking, and while that's fine, the big problem was that the patio door, which is right next to the indoor dining area, was propped open, which made the entire indoor dining area fill with cigarette smoke. Even after asking one of the bartenders if I could close the door due to the smoke, and getting his permission, I found the door propped open again just a few minutes later, which made smoke fill the room again. Multiple attempts to close the door in order to keep the smoke outside ended up being futile, as somebody kept propping open the door again. This was my first visit to this place, and it was pretty disappointing. I would not recommend eating at this place if you are allergic or sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Voted best dive bar in Portland! I've been going to the Rose and thistle for over 10 years now and it will always be my favorite neighborhood hangout. Great drinks and food and the best staff!
