Of all the restaurants in Portland, this is the one I've gone back to the most. Best vegetarian rolls I've ever had and the ramen is amazing too!!

Great food, service and menu. The house specialty rolls are in innovative and delicious, they have a great selection of nigiri/sashimi choices, and there was something extra yummy about the miso soup. This place may not be super flashy, but it's sincere and wonderful.

I’ve had a lot of sushi I’m my life, and Samurai Blue is a gem. The fish was of the absolute highest quality, and their rolls are inventive, interesting and delicious. Sumo roll is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. The hotate/scallop nigiri was huge and amazingly fresh. Succulent and tender, the house-pickled saba/mackerel was the best I’ve ever had. Even the miso soup was more delectable than expected. Service is friendly and gracious, and dishes are served on gorgeous hand-carved wooden platters. Get the house hot sake and look who's in your cup! I was really impressed and will definitely be back.

Great flavors, friendly people-what else do you want? The omakase here is great, and a real deal at $50. It's a full meal, with innovative offerings. This visit, it started with a crispy shrimp taco, which I was a bit skeptical of. Delicious. Everything was tasty, with flavors that surprised and delighted. Go there. Get the omakase.

The WORST ramen I've ever been served. And I'm 57. I've lived, and I know what I'm talking about. The nigiri I ordered was fine (how difficult can it be to mess up raw fish?) yet the spicy miso ramen was disgusting from the first spoonful, disgracefully awful. It had a lot of heat, yet was oddly flavorless, bland, as if the short order cook on-parole frat boy in the kitchen dumped 4x the amount of hot spices in while failing to use even a pinch of sea salt. All the vegetables were BLAND. The egg TASTED OLD -- as if it been covered under plastic wrap for several days. It wasn't fresh. Worst of all, the chashu SUCKED. Whatever derelict working the kitchen that day (01/02/25) unaccountably GRILLED the chashu!! The pork was pulverized by deep black grill marks. Earth to Samurai Blue: charcoal ruins chashu, which is SUPPOSED TO BE LEAN AND SUPPLE -- this junk was as tough as shoe leather. The noodles were weak, bland, flavorless; the wretched broth -- what an INSULT to my palette it was -- was made so stupidly over-hot I choked on it not once but twice. This was the most MISERABLE DINING EXPERIENCE I've had in several years -- as if the kitchen were catering to trendy drunk young Americans with no taste and no knowledge of the subtlety Japanese cooking is supposed to have. This crappy restaurant ought to give me my money back. Also, the wretched in-house muzak of stale American pop of yesteryear (U2, REM) blared at a deafening volume was a dead giveaway that this place only exists to appease clueless honkies. Avoid this tourist trap at all costs. For more authentic and consistently delicious ramen, go spend money at Marukin instead.

Stopped in for dinner before a concert. Dinner was fast, fresh, and delicious. We got two rolls and some nigiri. The service was quick and the waitresses were super nice. Also sipped on some sake and a lychee martini, which were both refreshing. Will absolutely be going back in the future.
