Excellent teas. Steven Smith is a renowned Master Teamaker. Remember Stash Tea and Tazo Tea? He was responsible for those. I highly recommend any of the teas. You will not be disapointed.
Excellent place to relax and sip on some tea. Calming vibes and lots of natural light. Staff is fantastic and knowledgable. Very clean and well stocked store.

Food and tea was good. Very aesthetic and incredibly clean. Not particularly special, but a cozy place for tea and a treat

The tea is very good but they will not give you more hot water for the tea pot. This is the only tea place that we have this issue. We are tea lovers, travel all over the world and every tea shops we have been to extra hot water is a given but not with Smith Tea at this location. We spent 50$ here for 8oz of tea, 2 tea potsand they don't refill hot water and their tea bag direction says the bag can be used 2-3 times????
Great selection of teas and tea lattes. Also take home tea bags or loose tea. Cute little shop that has minimal seating but worked fine for us.

Great tea, smaller space and smaller menu than the other location in Portland (about 10 seats or so). Highly recommend the tea, just can't guarantee there will be a place to sit.

Went in on 3/18 around noon. Excellent service, delicious tartlet & black lavender fog latte. Love this location too.
There are two aspects I'm rating Smith on, the atmosphere and the tea itself.
The store is a little too small to allow for any good seating. I've tried sitting inside the store a couple of times and have been left uninspired and not feeling good about the space itself. I'd like to have some character and the sense that I can have a good conversation. Both of these are lacking here.
The tea... it was actually pretty bad. I'm going to compare my experience with Tao of Tea located on the east side. At Tao, I can ask for a chai tea and they will have a long list of points they check off, then spend 5 minutes making a five star cup of Chai. At Smith, I was not asked if I wanted sweetener, they added so much sugar it was like going to Starbucks, ordering a Chai, and then adding sugar. The tea was served like a latte, with frothed heated milk. I honestly didn't want to finish it, but since I spent $7...
I live a block away. So I'm sad that this place isn't that good. They have nice tea pots, but that is about it.

Love the tea. Hated the store employee that was super rude to my friend gently asking to go to the bathroom. We were there together and I did buy a bunch of tea that I was planning to get. But I would not recommend this location because apparently when you work on 23rd you are allowed to be rude.

Incredible selection of just about any type of tea you can imagine. The choice can be a little overwhelming (at least for us) so we settled on a couple of tea sampler flights and are so glad we did. We were able to sample a number of teas and also learn a bit of the history behind each tea. Our server was very knowledgeable and super helpful!

Love this place! It’s the best tea house in Portland. My favorite tea is #68 Garden Party. 🌸 If it’s your first time, I really recommend starting with the tea flight experience to taste three different teas.
