So bomb ?. Had the cod fish & chips and a cup of chowder. Everything was great and good portions. Light and crispy batter, crunchy fries (with pepper), not too thick chowder, amazing cocktail sauce (lots of horseradish). Great service to boot. Can’t wait to go back.

We love their fries. Have been going there for at least 5 or 6 years.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. In fact, all of our friends go there on Fridays. They have video games all kinds of cool stuff for kids and a nice beer truck for adults. $6 pints can't beat it.

Cod fish and chips are totally amazing! The best I have had in Portland.

Very good fish what chips. Battery is light and crispy. Fries are a tad over salted but also well prepared. Soggy fries are a sin.

Ordered 2 pieces of Alaskan cod which came with fries. The serving of fish was so small that I could've comfortably eaten it in one bite. Plan on remaining hungry unless you're getting the 4-piece.From the little I did taste, I can say the quality was good.

After my adventures with baris and JJs in the piedmont food carts (see my other reviews) I said to hell with it and got what my wife was having even though I worked for a seafood house for 6 years. Cod 2 piece, came quick and hot and seasoned perfectly. Only complaints is cocktail was like 80% horseradish, and slaw wasn't salted enough but it's a fine line because if you over salt it pulls more moisture from the slaw. I also would've liked my fish done a little more since it was cold out since the moisture caused it to get soggy quickly but it was done and more of a preference thing. Good job for someone who doesn't like seafood that much

Chowder was delicious. Also had the halibut fish and chips. Best I've had since I was in Alaska. The fries were nice and crispy and a lot of them. The fish was fresh and so yummy. Didn't need any dipping sauce. Their cocktail sauce had a big kick and I loved it! The owners were super nice. Will definitely be back.

Alright, let me just put this out there: I am an absolute "fish and chips snob". The vast majority of fish and chips I order at restaurants leaves me underwhelmed. It's rare that I order fish and chips and am happy with what I get. Which is why I'm very happy to say: The Original Halibuts is THE BOMB!!!In fact, after going today for the first time it has taken the helm as my favorite fish and chips anywhere in Oregon! That distinguished honor used to belong to Luna Sea in Yachats (which is still excellent). But yeah, The Original Halibuts is even better! What makes it so good? First, the halibut is absolutely fresh and of the highest quality. You can't fake that part either, so color me impressed. Second, the tempura-like batter is absolutely PERFECT! Good fish and chips is all about the fish, and the batter should be light, crisp, and not at all greasy. It should merely compliment the fish. (Far too many places over-batter and over-cook their fish, leaving you with a greasy, too-bready gut bomb.) In this regard The Original Halibuts nails the correct fish-to-batter ratio with a delicious, light, awesome crust. Third, the fries are plenty good. Not the absolute best I've had, but definitely better than average. And thankfully The Original Halibuts doesn't do something that I believe should be deemed a crime against humanity: they don't serve "battered fries". (It must be said yo...whoever invented "battered fries" should be lined up against a wall and summarily shot without trial.)Pricing is entirely fair for what you're getting. High quality halibut, right now, is about $25-$30/pound. Yeah, it's not cheap. But here the old adage rings true: "You get what you pay for."Seriously, if you're looking for what is hands-down the best fish and chips in Oregon, you have to check this place out. And as an added bonus the owners seem like really cool people who take pride in their food. It's always nice to see restauranteurs who give a sh*t. You won't be disappointed!
