Great bar, fabulous food every time, and the owners are amazing. The only downside is how loud it can get in there sometimes- some plants or sound proofing on the ceiling would make a big difference in my opinion. But I've never had anything but a great experience every time I've gone here - I love this place!

What a freaking gem. I mean it's nestled in between two bigger restaurants, so, do a double take. Walk on in .... it's rad and small enough to carry on a conversation with the bartenders. Speaking of bartenders, that conversation I was talking about? Yak it up. They know what they're doing and they'll make you some interesting combinations. Really cute for a date night. And their patio, probably seats like 30 people so enjoy it when you have the chance.

One of the most underrated bars in the city! I recommend it to everyone and I just wish more people would take my word for it. Everything about it, the service, drinks and food, is above and beyond every single time. The bartenders are soooo nice and friendly and always willing and excited to make you something off-menu (even though every cocktail on the menu is fun, unique and dialed in already!) My favorite is the Worf (spicy tamarind margarita), if you like spicy, it doesn’t hold back! The tempura kimchi is incredible. Can’t miss the edamame with whatever spiced stuff they put on it. The bowls with pickled veggies and pork katsu or crispy tofu. I’m telling you. With so many choices in Portland, I usually prefer to stay home because it’s so often I’m disappointed with mediocre and less-than-exciting food and beverage experiences or I feel paying for a “cool vibe” and then that’s about it. Then I found Shaku Bar—finally somewhere I’m happy to spend my money!

Holy cow this place is such a hidden gem. Happy hour is unrivaled, crispy tofu bowl was insanely good, bomb tempura kimchi (marry me), plus a back patio that is epic with multiple levels. All around fantastic place! Super friendly tenders and an art market out back! Woo! Love you! Sorry I didn’t take any pics I ate too fast.

As a cocktail fan, I've loved watching this place's drink menu evolve. It's progressive without pretension. The nerd references in the drink names and descriptions are a blast. I like to think the owners are ambassadors for hooking more people on obscure liquors by using Star Trek and GoT references.
Start your night with a Worf spicy marg. Then digest with a Going Merry white negroni. End with a Ramen Shot, why not? Don't forget to try the Starfleet bottle, Shaku's offering for anybody to taste top shelf spirits at cost.
As for food, how have I lived all my life without tempura kimchi? It's also a part of Shaku's house burger, which is a banger.

Tastiest bar food in Portland! We got the Katsu Sando which was gigantic and had the best slaw ever. The vegan rice bowl was delicious according to the wife, the jackfruit tacos were melt in your mouth yum with the perfect amount of spicey, and she likes it hot!. Smash burger was bomb! and a chicken rice bowl for our pickiest who ate more than normal. Drinks are on point too!!! Update- It's been a couple of years but we were back in Portland and it's still the best food EVER! Drinks were way too smooth, but that's to be expected with who's pouring them.
Vegetarian options: Vegan Rice bowls are on point.

The best bar we’ve been to in Oregon. Their service stood out the most to us. Service often is a make or break and can ruin a customers experience but they nailed every single aspect. Very attentive, knowledgable, and quick service. This place genuinely puts their heart into their food and drink flavors. They damn well know how to make a great burger and definitely can make any drink your heart desires. Some of our “regular” go to drinks they didn’t have but the best part is, they know how to care towards your needs did not say “no we don’t have that” and always came back with either something better or just as good for your liking. Atmosphere is uplifting and vibes are great because a lot of their customers you can tell looooove being regulars and it shows and we can definitely see why. We tried their “Shaku Burger”, wings, garlic friend edamame, and furikake fries! Must try if you’re ever visiting or live in Oregon. It was so good we went twice in one trip just because we enjoy it so dang much!!
Now this one is going to be just a little bit Rose colored because I him real cool with the guys sit on the place and plan to be doing some business with them as well as calling them truly friends. Those guys respectfully impatiently waited 2 years for me to deal with some personal things with me and my family and my relocation to still welcome me back every time with smiles and open arms and coming up here soon you will be seeing some things that I will be collaborating with them on and I'm sure that you guys are going to love!!! This is going to be the first of many many Summers to remember!!! (Stay tuned) But the drinks are awesome, the food is delightful and delicious. The atmosphere is chill, intimate and just the right amount of bright at the same time. The outside area is covered with quite stylishly designed covered patio space.
