TL;DR: Good sushi, unforgettable Portland dining.
After years of searching for my favorite sushi spot in Portland, I finally found Yosu.
Now, I won’t say it’s the best sushi in the city, I’m probably not qualified to do that, and honestly, there’s a food truck that still wins my heart for pure quality.
My sample size was small, though. I only had one roll, the Red Dragon Roll. It wasn’t life-changing, but it was solid. It’s what you would expect from your sushi options in town. The calamari, though, was *chef’s kiss*, lightly breaded, crispy, and meaty in all the right ways. The miso soup was fine/good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and interesting (though the martini glass presentation was awkward to eat from).
Where Yosu really stands out is the experience. The place nailed its mix of traditional Japanese art and Portland quirk. Big glowing windows on Broadway, fun neon lighting, fun spacey murals and music that actually adds to the vibe. The plating was the cutest and most fun I’ve ever seen, and the staff’s traditional-style jackets tie the whole theme together perfectly.
I felt that someone truly cares about all of the small details and I really appreciate that.
Whether you are visiting Portland and looking for a memorable sushi experience, or you live here, Yosu is absolutely worth a stop.

I don’t like giving places poor reviews especially at a place like this that has kind staff. But my groups of friends had a pretty bad experience there. Two of my friends got really sick from one of the sushi rolls they shared. The server spoke limited English so it was hard to communicate about the bill at the end but I’m pretty sure we were charged for more food than we actually ordered. She had brought out gyozas for us that we didn’t order and said “on the house” but then later put this on our bill. I called later to reconcile the bill. To their credit they did go through our bill in detail to see what we had ordered, but I’m still certain that some items were not ordered but still charged.
As other people have stated here, the food was brought out at very different times so that some people were completely done with their meals before the last people were served. The sushi itself tasted decent but all of the above mishaps were not at all worth our money. We won’t be returning.

Love this Sushi place! I’ve ordered from here many times before and their sushi is my favorite! They are very friendly and the one time I was in store the restaurant was very pretty and calm atmosphere, I loved it there and will definitely visit again with my friends. Whenever I have to recommend sushi I always recommend this place!!

I ordered online during regular hours on a Saturday, went to the store, and they had an open sign in the window but there was nobody inside. The lights were off and the door was locked.
Yummm. Everything tasted fresh and it was presented very well. Food took time but it’s nice to not be in a hurry sometimes and enjoy your company. Had the Salmon Poké and 4 Seasons Roll

I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I ordered the salmon ikura bowl and my friend got the dragon roll and salmon belly nigiri.
1. It took way too long for my food to come out. The restaurant wasn’t even busy but my friend’s food came first and she was already halfway through her meal when mine finally arrived.
2. The rice wasn’t sushi rice. It was just plain white rice. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants and this was the first time I’ve been served regular white rice with sushi. It was honestly surprising.
3. For a salmon ikura bowl, the ikura was barely there. It felt like they just sprinkled a few on top like pepper.
4. Both the salmon and ikura didn’t taste fresh. Sadly the quality felt below average and it just wasn’t worth the money.

Loved the food! Everything tasted amazing. The amount of effort they put in every dish was also incredible. Very pretty! Recommend.

Amazing food, service, quality, and everything between. The food was very reasonably priced and both the sushi and other menu items were delicious. The popcorn chicken came as a surprise, but it was some of the best I ever had. Every piece of sushi was flavorful, fresh, and made with care. We had a party of 9 and everyone had an amazing time. You will not be disappointed.

A true hidden gem— one of the best sushi restaurants in Portland. We’re addicted to the multi-piece sashimi but haven’t had a bad meal here yet!

I’ve been searching for restaurants that mimic a taste of being in my childhood home, a bit of a nostalgia and comfortability. Where the art is perfect and just makes sense. Whether it be your home or mine, I feel so welcome. Thank you for my meal, I adore the bachelorette bash water cup as it represents how we should reduce, reuse, and recycle.
