fresh and beyond yummy.will definitely be stopping by again very soon.
Real Gumbo and that’s coming from a real New Orleanian who has ate some of the best gumbos money can buy. Her gumbo is super solid.
As Louisiana natives, my family was very happy to finally find good Cajun food in Salem. Although the gumbo is a bit thin, the flavor is wonderful! We also really enjoyed the Mac with sausage. We will definitely be back.
One of the tastiest bowls of gumbo I have ever had! Broth is full of rich, complex flavors and delicious chicken and sausage. We also shared a huge baked potato loaded with fixings and a tasty Cajun crumble on top. We’ll be back soon for more gumbo and to try the Mac n cheese!
I picked up a bowl of gumbo and a loaded baked potato from Gumbo YaYa at The Yard in Salem over the weekend. It was so good! Deep, rich flavors in the gumbo with tender chicken and spicy sausage. The cajun crumble to top the massive potato was fantastic! Lisa, the owner, was so kind and fun to talk to. Can’t wait to go back!
Loved the great, bold flavors and the different style of gumbo served here. Yes, there’s more liquid than your “typical” gumbo, but the deep, rich flavored roux base makes the gumbo amazing. Also tried the Mardi Gras Mac and cheese with shrimp and the bayou shrimp, both have the ya ya sauce base flavor but are soo desirable in their own way. Also had a sample of the cheesy grits and wow! Not so gritty like other Cajun places. These grits were so creamy and packed with cheesy greatness. Smashed all the dishes that I only had a pic of the Mac and cheese before demolishing it. Gonna be my Cajun food fix spot, no need to fly out to NOLA.
Boyfriend experienced immediate food poisoning after eating the gumbo. Began 30 min after with zero other food or drinks consumed. Sick to his stomach all day and night. Do not recommend.
Came here searching for good Cajun food. So happy to have discovered Gumbo Ya Ya! Nothing gritty with them cheesy grits and the gumbo was a very nice, unique style that satisfied my hearty soup craving. Also ordered the Mardi Gras Mac and cheese with shrimp which was the only dish I could snap a pic of before demolishing it!
I am hooked on the Gumbo from this food truck. I have been getting it once a week every week for months now and it is a winner every time. There is no other place in town with Gumbo that has a flavor as complex and authentic as this place. Every bite is delicious and every bowl I get is consistently good. The people working this truck are friendly and often the wait time for food is very short. I should really try other items here but every week I just keep getting that Gumbo so that is honestly all I can speak to but it is simply that good!
Excellent Food! Had the “ya ya pasta” and even on a hot day it didn’t overload me, kind of reminded me of a light beef stroganoff without the cream. I went out on a limb without much experience in Cajun food, I’m happy I did. There was also a cooler with sodas that you wouldn’t find anywhere else and they were delicious. Ask the person at the counter for a recommendation on the soda!

chose to try a cup of gumbo as part of my meal at Food Yard. Very personable lady working very hard behind the counter. After a bit of a wait, I found the gumbo really good if a bit thin. Broth was flavorful and probably simmered for hours. The rice was just right and the chicken and sausage had excellent flavor. And the lovely lady behind the counter didn’t even charge me for the soda I broke in front of her cart.
Head the pleasure of meeting
This is excellent food. Not sure why the prior customer said it was terrible. 2 pieces of chicken and 2 sausage in a container. First this isn't the norm and second you aren't getting a gallon of food. It is delicious and the service is excellent. Had the gumbo and mac and cheese and potato salad and the cheese grits. All are excellent. You need to try it.
The Mac and Cheese is amazing. Extremely filling and just the right amount of spice. I could eat it basically every day. The potato salad is divine, it’s not overly saucy like some potato salads.
Cheese grits!!! One of the southern delicacies that I miss. SO GOOD!!! Highly recommend
