Best catfish I've ever had. I lived in South for 7 years. Mac was out of this world. Greens amazing, green beans taste like bacon. This guy needs a restaurant. I couldn't recommend it higher and I'm a cook.
Came on a Monday, when he doesn't have his barbequed meats. Still entirely worth the trip, as the sides (collard greens, corn bread, mac and cheese) alone were worth the trip. The mac and cheese in particular (new recipe) is superb. Add a well fried chicken, and a great dinner was had.
I purchased the pulled pork sandwich, it came with beans and Cole slaw. I ordered a side of Mac n cheese. I had lived in the south for quite a time so I should've known better! The flavor was good but, as is very typical for southern foods, it was just too sweet! It was overwhelming. And the sandwich was oozing grease. I felt like I was eating the diabetes disease! Sorry, but just too unhealthy and too sweet!

Came for the ribs but he was sold out, so I settled on the Pulled Pork combo... this has got to be the best pulled pork I've ever had. Strangely, my appetite was stimulated with each bite, it was so tasty. Not sure if the coleslaw in the sandwich did it but wow, total banger.Owner was a friendly and easy going guy. I will definitely be back for the ribs.I couldn't stop eating to take a photo so all you see is what's left lol.

If you want food that will remind you of home, or the feeling of sitting next to the camp fire in a nice thick blanket this place will fill that void. Not only is the food fantastic. I'm a born and raised Memphian, grew up eating the best BBQ there is. I moved to Bend Oregon a couple years ago and have desperately missed soul food ever since. Then today I stumbled upon JoJo's on a business trip to Salem and discovered that he and I ran in the same circles and enjoyed the same BBQ joints back in Memphis. He's done it, brought true southern soul food cooking to Oregon. I ordered one of everything, and talk about an instant cure to Memphis BBQ homesickness. Everything was cooked and seasoned in a way that can only be achieved when family tradition and secrets are passed down from generation to generation. Will be my go to whenever in the area.
Just finishing my leftovers two days later, feeling compelled to write this review. Ordered the chicken and rib combo with collards, mac and Hawaiian bbq beans. Everything was fantastic! Great smoke flavor on the chicken and ribs! Loved the Mac and Cheese. Excellent collards and the bbq beans might be the best i have ever had. Combine this with access to a full bar and inside tables and restrooms, Soul Food at The Yard will be an essential stop every time i drive through Salem!

We had read an article while traveling in Oregon. About this place. The collard greens were absolutely on point!!!!Collard greens is not a dish ever served or cooked correctly west of the Mississippi River. His broth was most fantastic culinary experience. Rich in flavor and filled with greens. Yum yum yummy!!!The cornbread is outstanding, moist , with a little crunch, the ribs are so good, you will steal off each other's plates.The Mac and cheese is so creamy, will be your happy place of comfort food.Most BBQ places have one maybe two items worth anything. But very few have a menu that is a 10 out of 10 for all items. This place is legit. The owner is a humble, soft spoken wonderful human being. Support amazing people and the love they put in their food.

I have been meaning to come out and try this place for over a year now, but just never could make the time! The food is amazing! My family is from Tennessee so I love good bbq and this is some of the best I've had--ANYWHERE! The greens were cooked to perfection--hint of sweet and salty, and absolutely delicious! I told the owner "better than my Nannie used to make!" The rest of the sides (Hawaiian baked beans, cornbread and mac & cheese were a perfect complement to the main event--those ribs! Tender, perfectly cooked with the right amount of bark, and lightly brushed with a smoky bbq sauce. I can't say enough good about it. To top it off, the owner is very gracious and kind, and obviously knows his craft! My only regret is waiting so long to try it! Definitely going back soon

What a hidden gem. A tiny food stall in the food truck market with some of the best soul food I've ever had.I got the chicken and rib combo. The ribs were meaty and the chicken was cooked perfectly.The max n cheese was so indulgent and the collard greens were on point.We also got a piece of cat fish for the Friday special and it was 10/10. The homemade tartar sauce went perfectly with crispy and flavorful. Come here and support this amazing food!
