I'm a regular at The Sassy Onion and I highly recommend. the food is awesome and a shout out to ALL staff...you guys are the best.
This is a review of two very different experiences with this restaurant. The first time we went here, our server was great (although somewhat shy), and he gave quick, efficient service. Also our food was fine, although not worth the high prices that they charge. The second time we had a perky but terrible waitress who gave us menus and disappeared for 10 minutes before she bothered to ask if we wanted coffee. That arrived several minutes later. This time the food quality was much worse. The hash browns that came with the corned beef hash had the consistency of oatmeal--just soggy mush on the plate. And the club sandwich was comically big--not due to lots of filling-but because the three slices of bread were each close to an inch thick. The meat and cheese in the sandwich appeared to be grocery store cold cuts--very disappointing.
As for atmosphere, the place is clean with generic photos on the walls, nothing special. The seat back to our booth was very loose, meaning each movement we made disturbed the group in the next booth, and vice versa.
Given the high prices and iffy service, I doubt we'll return.
Dietary restrictions: The restaurant accommodates gluten-free diets fairly well.

I'm a big guy who knows how to eat and they have an eight egg omelette that is muy fabuloso. My friend eats light and she always likes what she gets too. A good value and great service.

UPDATE reached out to the manager of state street whom was very professional/apologetic.
They are planning on making things right, & if someone messes up but takes responsibility. Then tries to make up for it... I cannot knock them, that’s good business. ?
Sassy onion was a major bust… first time there.
Menu reads.. stuffed with marscapone cheese and this is what you get for $15.50 ???️
Canned peaches and no flavor. Never again.
Is this what breakfast joints look like post covid?
As far as service went, it was decent!
The restaurant is also cozy. Bland pictures, lacking any soul or feeling of it being a family restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend going there.

With 2 kids going through Willamette since 2012, we have been going to the Sassy for years. First timers just HAVE to order the French Toast with Strawberry topper. However, as of Oct 2024, they have replaced the fresh strawberries and real whip with canned whip and compote. In a move to save money and survive, they have also removed fresh fruit from the menu. We are just a WU family and have no connection to Sassy formally. I only report this, not to throw Sassy under the bus, but to increase awareness that our beloved local spot NEEDS your patronage! Come and support the Sassy!! Keep the restaurant vibrant and able to keep it’s beloved menu items available year round!

This is the food I've been looking for, it's the best I've had and my family agreed. The wait was well worth it. Staff amazing, my only complaint is my Bad why didn't I go here sooner, cause please don't change a thing, I got full & ate every bite! I think tomorrow sounds like a great day to eat here again.

The food service and atmosphere were all just above average. I would give it a solid 3.5 stars. My daughter and her husband really liked this place. They would give it closer to 4.5 to 5 stars.

Stopped in for breakfast on my first full day in town visiting my best friend. Luckily he told me just to get the single french toast! It was AMAZING! I preferred the berry syrup for the contrast of the sweet and tangy berry flavor to the sweetness of the French toast.
He had the cinnamon roll with apples and those apples were out of this world! I would eat them in a bowl alone!

Greetings from Oregon! Today i had breakfast at The Sassy Oinion on State Strret. It is a small cafe that promises a home cooked meal thats sure to satisfy your appetite. I ordered a San Diego in a skillet breakfast with a homemade biscuit with gravy on the side. As you can see from my last picture- i hated it! I ? Everything was fresh and delicious! My waitress- Seinna served my food with a smile and made me feel right at home. Don't you just love it when your server makes you feel special. As the waitresses brought different plates to the other guest, I was amazed at how good everything looked. Next time I visit, i will order pankcakes- they looked yummy. They also serve, burgers, Salads. And Wraps. There is something for everyone.

I don't even know where to start with this one... This was my first time visiting this place and let me tell you - HORRIFYING FOOD AND SERVICE! Even the atmosphere is gloomy and looked so dirty. The food came out so fast which tells me that everything is pre-made. My whipped butter wouldn't even melt on the pancake - Yeah! That's how cold it was! The toast was burned.. and the country fried steak was subpar. I asked the very moody, rude, and unfriendly server if I can get toast that wasn't burned, a new "hot" pancake, and fresh cream for my coffee.. She grabbed my two plates and walked off. After she comes back with the food, the toast is pitch black AGAIN! The pancake was good as far as taste, but was so thin. My husband's remark; "We should have eaten at home".
I asked the server "Did I offend you when I asked for new toast and another pancake? Seems I stepped on your toes, and that wasn't my intent". She said; "No, not at all.. It's me. Trust me, it's me. I've been up since 3am", then starts to cry. I didn't even know what to do at that point. I asked my husband if we can just leave. The second server was really nice and polite. I'll try out the Market Street location, but will never return to State Street.

The Ruben sandwich was spectacular, Loved that the meat was shredded and not lunch meat pieces. Didn't care for the sassy sauce. Onion rings were okay! Nothing spectacular. Blueberry pancakes were decent!
Not anything that I would seek out and say oh, let's go there again!
Vegetarian options: Was glad to see that there was vegetarian options. We were with a gluten-free and a vegetarian!
