Every town has a place like Al’s. Altoona is no exception, Al’s has just about anything you can think of wrapped up into a restaurant with a great atmosphere. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the food is great too.

We found Al’s tavern on Google after a long day at DelGrosso’s with our two young children. I really wanted to find a place that would be okay with kids, have a good beer list and even better food options. Al’s absolutely delivered in every way. The atmosphere was, upbeat and very clean. The service was wonderful, very attentive and professional. The food was OUTSTANDING. We loved the chili, the California chicken salad, the cheese poppers, the kids food was great too! Their sauces even were good! The bill less $100 which is great for a dinner for four! Thanks, Al’s staff!

Great family spot to go with anyone who likes a large option of different foods. Delicious chicken wings, Garlic flavor, can't stop telling people about these! On top of this, it was great service and after swearing off Pennsylvania pizza after a trip to Scranton, this made me a believer that good pizza does exist in PA!

I have lived in Altoona my entire life. I have eaten at Al's for decades. That said, this post is about their attempt at Altoona Hotel pizza. First, no one is ever going to perfect Altoona Hotel's masterpiece. Their dough was what made it. Al's is as close to the original that I have ever tried but they skimp out on the cheese, and green peppers. The salami should be sliced into strips not used as a whole slice, same with the green peppers. The sauce is perfect, slice the peppers and salami and use more than one slice of cheese per cut.
