On the evening of 10-12-24, I came to Champs grill in altoona.5 years ago I had great food and service here. Today was terrible. I walked in and asked the young man if I could sit in the main dining room or in the upper dining area. He looked at me and said, "were pretty full". " you can sit at one of those tables by the bar". Those tables were very small , uncomfortable, and away from the action. I didn't accept that offer and stepped aside, when two people came in and another man at the desk told them to go right upstairs! I don't understand? I was dressed nice in slacks and shirt after church; and I wasn't accepted! I walked outside and watched a dozen more people go in and not becturned away! I recommend everyone stay away from this restaurant. There was no reason for this treatment.

There was a rotting carcus smell especially near the entrance. Service I got was awful. So bad waitress apologized for her own poor service. I would have not minded had she been nice from the start.

Atmosphere was expected for a Friday night. Was recommended for the brick oven pizza that was soggy due to cheap ingredients. The garlic cheesy bread was cheaply made with French bread, a dash of sauce and slap of melted mozzarella cheese, not impressed. Maybe if you visit for the drinks and the atmosphere it would be recommended but definitely NOT for the pizza, however, the staff was excellent, and the wings were worth a possible repeat visit.

Great menu. Friendly staff.
First time here, was late Sunday night and entire staff was enjoyably receptive. The beer list and menu had incredible variety . The steaks were done spot on, my shrimp gumbo was absolutely delicious ???? spice level 6 out of 10 ??. This was my first time and certainly won't be my last . Thank you ? for an A+ dining experience from start to finish!!!!

My friend was drugged while there Sunday night. He was distracted and someone slipped something in his drink. He has no recollection of what happened for the next 3 hours. The next thing he remembered, he was walking with the guy who had been sitting next to him at Champs. My friend was very out of it and confused. The guy tried to make him snort something and then took him behind a building. He was told to sit down by a bush and the guy pulled out his phone, called someone and said "hey I've got one, he's here beside me." He hung up, then reached behind the bush and pulled out a white mask with a long beak and put it on. Upon seeing this, my friends adrenaline kicked in and he ran. The guy gave chase but thankfully my friend had a second phone on him and called 911. His work phone had been taken at some point. They apparently didn't know he had a second phone on him. The guy ran off when my friend called for help. When the police arrived, my friend had no idea where he was or how he got there. He did remember that the guy who sat beside him at the bar, who was with 2 women, is the one who took him behind the building. After being treated at the hospital, my friend went to talk to two different managers at Champs, at 2 different times Monday. Both managers insisted the guy who had been sitting next to my friend the night before wasn't the one who drugged him. They were very rude and could have cared less what happened to my friend. They do not care for the safety of their clientele at all. They stated they have no cameras and basically refused to help my friend. I would avoid this place at all costs.
