Have ordered from McGarveys 5 times now over the past few years. My fiancée loved their spicy club sandwich but I’ve always felt their food was pretty subpar, mostly lower quality frozen stuff I could pay half the price for at the grocery store. 3 of those times I’ve ordered a salad and never once were there hard boiled eggs included even though it was in the description. This time I ordered a buffalo chicken salad, received a regular chicken salad with only a small handful of overcooked chicken and fries. My fiancée’s spicy club sandwich didn’t have the sriracha sauce, so it was just a regular club sandwich. We’ve finally decided we’re done being disappointed, definitely don’t want to spend our money here again.

The food is great and the owner really cares about the local music scene. He books bands, treats them fairly, and does a great job for the scene. stop on in, get a meal, and see a band.

For being the only place in town to see a live band of the heavier variety, the food.is really good. I still.know the place by its.former owner but their food now doesnt compare. Wings and burgers are great and keep an eye on their live schedule. Cant wait to.see Ill nino and pm5k.

Simple Things
Normally I would share pictures and give a big review. This time I do not have pictures and a smaller review. The atmosphere is great with friendly patrons and staff. The food i ate here was beyond exceptional and I would have gladly eaten myself into a food coma ha ha. Give it a try the owner is super friendly too!

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd never been to Altoona, and had no information about it except a friend and I had an invitation. Our focal point of the night was this magical place, McGarvey's Bar and Grill.
(Full disclosure: myself and a friend are in a band, and we were there to play with local nasty as f#@& legends Seas We Fear to Sail, exceptional street/skate punk purveyors Exs for Eyes, and the the official reunion show of the mighty Becoming Friends with Lions.)
To sum it up: Holy. Hell. The locals came out early, stayed and rocked with all the bands, and no one got out of line at all (at least, if they did, it was in the fun way). Everyone was super friendly.
My coconspirator reports the burger was damn tasty and "exactly what was needed" after way too much coffee during a two hour drive from Pittsburgh. Don't ask. I mostly ate candy. My bad.
The only negative thing I have to report is my own fault: I didn't ask for the number of the angel taking money/checking IDs. Even though she took one look at me and said "You're good." Ugh, crushed ?. By the time I worked up the nerve, she had vanished. But, um, hi ?.
Tl;Dr, go here and get down with the locals. Hope there's a show. If so, pay the cover and join the party.

Rich was a super nice guy and his service is top notch! We were here for the halfway to St Paddy’s day with the Kilmaine Saints, and it was an awesome show. There is some free parking, but it is a small lot, so get there early. The food was pretty good and the drink selection is not bad at all. We will watch the schedule for upcoming shows here!

Absolutely amazing place for food, drinks, and entertainment. The owner is a great guy along with the entire staff, and it's a great place for music, trivia, and once in a while a small stage production. I highly recommend the Hot Club sandwich, it's my favorite!
Parking: There's a bunch of parking next to the building, on a standard night there's no issue finding parking, on an event night when a band is playing you may have to resort to street parking but there's plenty all around the block, just don't park at the hobby place across the street, he'll tow you...
