My husband and I always dine at Dobbin House while visiting Gettysburg, which is conveniently close to outside of Harrisburg. The food, atmosphere, and service have always been excellent. We've been coming here at least biannually since before we got married. We typically order steak and crab cakes. The entrees come with delicious homemade warm bread, side salads, and baked potatoes. However, I would NOT recommend this restaurant for families with young children. Our 9 y/o was so excited for a "fancy dinner" and got dressed up. And our 1.5 y/o was very well-behaved in her high-chair. She was occupied with books, toys, coloring, etc. But a few other patrons were visibly and audibly judgmental of us having kids there. They were also rude to our server, who was lovely. We heard them scolding her about how long it took for their wine to arrive (which wasn't long). I worked in the service industry for years so I took notice of this. I'm still recommending it, because it's not the establishment's fault, but wanted to warn other parents that this isn't a child-friendly place, and the patrons can be very uppity. I know it's considered "fine dining," but our children are well-behaved and respectful, and we still deserved a nice night out. We spent around $160 and left feeling like we weren't welcome at all on our first experience of family vacation. It was such a disappointment because we have always loved going here. It was very off-putting. I could understand if our toddler was being loud, but we know how to handle her in public, and honestly the guys who looked like they just ended a round of golf were louder than she was! I forgot to take photos because I was so annoyed by the loud remarks about us having the audacity to bring our little ones there. They still get 5 stars because every other experience we've had there as a couple has been wonderful! Just wanted to give parents notice.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Dobbin House. The Lee Suite was comfortable and the perfect stay.. It is conveniently located to the sites that Gettysburg has to offer. We walked to the cemetery across the street as well walked to the town square. We ate at both restaurants during our stay. Our favorite was the Alexander Dining Rooms. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and the Seafood Isabella was so delicious! The breads were yummy. Our server was friendly, funny and prompt. Tge breads are all so good, too. We highly recommend staying at the Dobbin House when in Gettysburg.
A beautiful old restaurant, but the highlight was our sweet waitress, Naomi. She gave us thoughtful advice and took wonderful care of us throughout the meal.
This tavern is located in a historic building in Gettysburg. We had to wait for 30 minutes but it was worth it. The food was good and the historic building made the dinner worth the wait.
Best French onion soup and crab dip!! Basement bar is a must.
Great French Onion soup !! Try the tavern in the basement …
Prime rib was tough and very thin and small serving for $39.00. Green beans almondine were tough as a leather boot. Server embarrassed me in front of many guests by loudly telling me my card did not do thru, which is a debit card, so my.problem, but could have been whispered to me instead of loudly announcing the problem, of course I immediately corrected the account. Not sure if we will be back, as we have dinned at Dobbin House three other times and always enjoyed the food and service. Time will tell, but Dobbin House needs to pick it back up, both food quality and service.
Wish i had known they had rooms!
Atmosphere Down in the basement Tavern was Fantastic. Candle lit lunch or dinner. Very dark, had to use phone light to read menu lol I recommend the New York strip with a Ginger beer. Waitresses were Great and dressed in period clothing
Our server was very friendly and was even helping us find a bakery to get a cupcake for our daughter’s 6th month birthday

The restaurant was really good.
- In a dark cellar only illuminated by the faint flickering of a beeswax candle table top, eating like it is the 1860’s.
Met a few friends for dinner one evening. You can never go wrong dining at the Dobbin House. Interesting atmosphere but you're there for the food. Can't say enough good things about it. Never had a bad meal or a horrible experience when we visit. It should be a must-go-to when visiting Gettysburg.
This review is for The Tavern. We ate here twice while in Gettysburg. Food was very good! Server the first night was awesome!! 2nd visit, not so much, but food still very good! We enjoyed eating here!! The onion soup is very good!
An amazing meal and service. The prime rib was perfectly cooked. Loved the hot spinach salad. Our waitress was so attentive. We sat in a small intimate room which was beautifully furnished.
