We dined at this establishment on March 25, 2025, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly disappointing. There were five waitresses sitting at the counter, seemingly more interested in their phones than attending to customers. After our order was taken, our food was delivered incorrectly. The rolls were stale, the gravy had an unappetizing consistency resembling brown wallpaper paste, and the hot dogs were served cold. To top it off, we received only one glass of water with our meal, and we never saw our waitress again after that. At one point, our waitress spilled gravy next to our table, looked down, and simply walked away, leaving the mess on the floor. Overall, this was hands down one of the worst meals I've ever experienced. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Used to love this place, even drove from York to have a couple dogs. No more, Half stale rolls, chunky onions instead of finely grated, tasteless dogs. Come on guys get your act together, you can do better!
Restaurants come and go, Famous is forever!.
Same menu; same great taste since I was a kid going there with my Dad.
If you're new to Hanover or in the area I recommend this Classic to you!.
Kid-friendliness: Great service!
everyone is friendly and welcoming. The waiters don't harass you.. you order and get your food within about 10-15 minutes and they leave you to it!.

Food OK. Service lacks night time! Sorry, just my one time experience.
Maybe this has to be a native to Hanover thing but holy hell- the hamburgers were on a hot dog bun that was stale. The meat was very minimal, mostly what you tasted was stale bun & onions. They piled two handfuls of on onions on it! Who wants that many onions?? The only decent thing there was the milkshakes. Definitely will not be returning for a second go around- the food was not seasoned, nor did any of it taste good. Most people seem to love it though, so I'm guessing it's a Pa thing.

Super famous place thats been around for 101 years!!!!! My son & I came in late one night recently with about an hour till closing. Staff starting to sweep the floor but very friendly and ready for us. Classic old diner feel & decor with “back in the day” pics and menu on the wall ($0.30 for a tall 32oz beer?!?).
Chocolate milkshake came out 1st from our order- AMAZING!
Famous Hot Weiner combo closely behind. Food was fresh- str8 outta the fryer and off the grill. Hot dog had a unique taste & presentation that was good. Hamburger was also presented on a hot dog bun (kinda cool) with decent flavor but not enough meat to bun ratio…..in my opinion.
{{truth be told, this is the first visit I’ve had here since I was a kid}}
The staff seemed happy to serve us & checked on us several times before and during our meal.
All smiles as we paid at the register and we were invited back -“see you next time!”
So- brief visit but mostly a good / positive / nostalgic experience!
Parking: From what i could tell, parking was mostly metered- on the street since they are on a downtown corner

I saw this place while driving through Hanover to my niece's house and decided to try it, probably just because of the name. The cool thing about it is that it's family-owned and has been there since the 1920s I believe the menu is very simple and a beer is only $2.50. You really can't beat that. The food was good but it was a hot dog and what can you do with a hot dog? Still, I was just kind of in the mood to try something unique and a hot dog and a beer sounded good so why not?
Parking: I went on a weekday but there was parking on the street with a meter right in front.

I gave a 1 for the food, because there wasnt a zero option. Food Was not good at all. Hot dog was weird, in a thick casing and left an bad aftertaste, as well as the chili. Fried were soggy and bland also.

A must try at least once. Had the two Weiner original combo and they use thicker dogs than other place I’ve been to. The original location is small but cozy and the service is good. The atmosphere is like a throw back to days gone by and you can imagine people in 1928 eating there.

This isn't a high end restaurant, so I can't give it 5 stars, but if you get a hankering for an egg sandwich, hotdog or a burger with "everything" (onions, chili sauce, and mustard) it's pretty hard to beat!! Oh, get a fry with chili or chili and onion too!

The hot dogs are great — try one with just their homemade relish!
A hint: if you order a cheese dog, you might not notice the cheese. Don’t be shy about asking them to make it extra cheesy.
The staff is fun and sassy and knows their menu well. You can get a pretty filling lunch here for under $13. The buns are magical!
(I drove in from WV because I am dedicated to finding good hot dogs wherever I go. These are good!)

My husband called an order in somewhat close to closing. He arrived between 845 and 850 to pick up. My son had decided that he wanted something to eat after all. My husband asked the very nice, helpful woman at the register if it would be ok to add something. She asked the kitchen and got the ok. However, it must not have been ok because once the order went in, a woman in the kitchen yelled "Are you kidding me?!?" and proceeded to complain the entire time the order was being made. Extremely rude, unprofessional behavior that made my husband and son feel as though their business was not valued or wanted at the "Famous".
