Amma's South Indian Cuisine

I had a wonderful meal at Amma's South Indian Cuisine, and it was one of the best Indian dining experiences I had in Philadelphia. The restaurant has a simple, welcoming atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. I ordered a masala dosa with sambar and coconut chutney, along with a cup of masala chai. Everything was freshly made, full of authentic flavor, and beautifully balanced with just the right amount of spice.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to explain the menu and offer recommendations. The only small downside was that the food took a little longer to arrive than I expected, but it was clearly prepared fresh and absolutely worth the wait.

My tip for first-time visitors is to start with a dosa if you've never tried South Indian cuisine before. Be sure to enjoy it with the sambar and chutneys for the full experience, and don't miss the fresh chai to finish your meal.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience. Thank you to the entire team at Amma's South Indian Cuisine for the outstanding food, warm hospitality, and excellent service. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Philadelphia.

Ordered lunch for delivery on fifa match day. 1 hr later it's still in prep. I call and am told it will be ready in 5 mins. Call back after 15 mins and I get told it might take 10-15 more mins. That's like 2 hrs to prepare. Had to cancel order and rush to the game. Restaurants needs to be better at taking orders or stop if they can't fulfill.

Service is very slow and confused. We ordered 4 thaalis, 3 came after 55 minutes, one about 70 minutes later.
The platter was grand to look at but legit two teaspoons of curries with barely one pice of meat in it. Very spicy so beware.
The drinks -watermelon mint was warm but ammas special was at least chilled.
Noisy place but that's expected.
Wait staff, servers, bus boys were very polite and apologetic.
I'd go back one more time, maybe in new jersey, to try something different before I give up

Went on 4th of July. Been to Ammas many xs. Wanted to write a great review. They were mobbed still got us in right before closing. Masala Dosa was delicious. Thank you Ammas. Always yummy.

Let’s get this straight the buttermilk( they call it something fancy, which ultimately is buttermilk) definitely not worth $8.
Their Subji start giving out stale smell the next day even after refrigeration. Mind you, one wouldn’t want to trash a $25 curry even if it’s half.
My honest opinion please check out other restaurants in and around Philly and save some $$ for next day lunch. Amma’s is not worth the money spend on a substandard Indian Food.

In Philadelphia for some R&R. Of course we had to eat too. Always on the lookout to eat someplace new. Walked around and happened upon this nice looking place. Who wouldn't be down for some good Indian cuisine? Amma's met the challenge.

We were seated promptly. The interior was very pretty and relaxing. The gentle music lends to the overall atmosphere. Very beautiful decor. The lighting just right. Our server was very polite and courteous.

Appetizers: Vegetable samosa and Gobi Manchurian (Spicy Cauliflower). Served with a glass of Reisling. Entrees: Non-veg Couples Combo. Everything was delicious. I really loved the parotta. Very flaky.

Ended with very refreshing cocktails: a Lychee & Ginger (w/Tequila) and Ice Mount (Coconut, Mint, and Tequila).

I really liked the menu and interior. Everything was nicely spiced.

Service was okay, but not a strong point. Asked for Coke Zero and got a Diet Pepsi.

I was on a business trip for a state, and I found a very good, amazing Telugu food here, and I loved it.
The ambience and staff are very good.
It's good to see and interact with the Indian people.
Everything i tasted is exceptional and atlast masala chai made me feel I'm in India.

A must-must place for Indians to take a seat here for the food which makes you feel like you're in India.

Went for lunch. Had a Kingfisher Indian lager, With chicken tikka masala, naan, and raita. Chicken was excellent, very nicely spiced. Wish I’d come for dinner so I would have had a bigger appetite. Next time!

We had the tikka masala and chicken biryani. Both were excellent. The dishware was also a nice touch. The service was good and everyone was attentive. The restaurant is well designed and gives a relaxing atmosphere with nice visuals.

Amma’s South Indian Restaurant is hands down the best place to eat Indian food in Philadelphia. 5 stars for food, ambience, sanitation and staff attitude. I would specifically like to recognize Maitri at the front desk is very friendly, helpful, respectful to all customers amd always with a smile on her face.

I have been here few years back and had a great experience so decided to visit again when I was in city; however, was disappointed both with the food quality and service.
