I've been doing to the restaurant, and im from Philly. My father used to eat their sandwiches. And I love them as well. And now Im live in Delaware. And I still come to the 5th st. Delicatessen.
Portions are HUGE!!! TOO GOOD!! Ask for Mike! You can't ask for a better server!
Everything was great about this deli. Wish the meat was Kosher or had some option. Even a Hebrew National hot dog.
Traveled from TX knowing my husband and I had to try this legendary place!
Ordered a philly, but it was the huge one you find youtube reviews on. It had pastrami, mushroom, cheese, onions, and brisket on a warm toasted loaf. Sandwich was huge! Split it with my husband and we didnt even finish half of our half.
Cant wait to go back and try more the next time I'm in NJ.
Service was great and the deli took you back in time. Only regret is that I didn't order a dessert to go.
You better come HUNGRY, servings are enormous (as someone said sitting next to us) “ridiculous “ in a good way, even a slice of cake is enough for 4-5 people. Oh and guess what “PITT” fans; they have their own Dana there. She is identical.
I was brought up in this neighborhood back in the 70-80’s and loved that this place hasn’t changed. So much nostalgia!

Very good food and the portion sizes were huge. The service was great we had a lovely lady. Our food took half an hour though...they lost my partners cheesesteak and so had to quickly make that. It was a bit expensive too. I'd come early the like was very long we luckily got in just in time to be seated.

UPDATE 2026-
Great food, huge portions. Pricey but worth it. The corned beef is some of the best in the city. The employees are great, and new ownership has made the transition seem flawless. Still the same excellent quality of food and the place is clean.
Classic Jewish style deli with wide selection of Jewish favorite foods. Dine in or take away, corned beef and rye bread, cookies, bagels and other baked goods to satisfy the palate. Definitely worth the visit.

I’d like to think I’m a bit experienced with Reuben sandwiches and this exceeded all expectations. Easily the best corned beef I’ve ever had - and nearly a pound of it! Great for breakfast two days in a row!

Of my goodness, this place was phenomenal. We left Philly 10 years ago for LA, and there is nothing even remotely close to this level of quality in Los Angeles. As a native New Yorker, I'm extremely picky about Jewish deli, and this place is as good as the best in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Long Island. That's the ultimate compliment.

All I can say is go hungry. The food was delicious and if you are a jewish deli person they have everything. Blinzes, kreplach, matza ball, chopped liver, the lot.

If you're looking for a Jewish delicatessen in Philadelphia, this is the spot. Ownership has changed but the great food remains.

This was our second time at Fourth Street Deli and it was just as good as our first visit many years ago. We ordered two platters, one with fresh salmon and a side of coleslaw and one with whitefish salad and coleslaw. Each platter came with crisp romaine lettuce and plenty of sliced cucumbers, more than enough for one person and definitely shareable.
The whitefish platter was especially generous with two full scoops, easily about two cups total and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The salmon platter was just as impressive with clean flavor and a beautiful texture. It also came with a bagel and cream cheese which made the whole platter feel complete.
Our waitress Tracey was awesome. She checked on us often, kept everything flowing and made sure we never had to ask for a thing. Service like that makes the whole experience even better. Fourth Street Deli remains a classic. Great food, generous portions and warm service, just like we remembered.
