I'm not surprised they are currently closed. When I went with a group there was only 1 staff person which served as the waiter & bartender. So needless to say service was VERY slow. The general tso chicken was good but everything else was mediocre.

Had a wonderful meal tonight at General Tsao's House. We had the General Tsao's chicken and the Hot pot. Both dishes were very flavorful and well prepared. We asked for a reduced spice level on the hot pot and they accommodated our request. Seeral staff members stopped by the table to make sure it wasn't too spicy. We started our meal off with the pork belly bao buns, soup dumplings, and Sesame noodle. The pork belly melted in our mouths. They was a great contrast of sweet and sour with the pickled vegetables. Our 16 month old son couldn't get enough of the noodles. They staff at General Tsao was amazing. Very friendly. They were constantly checking on our needs, and if everything was what we wanted. Just wanted to finish with one more comment that shows how amazing the staff was. After they seated us and we were getting settled, they filled our water glasses. We had our sons sippy cup on the table. They made sure his cup and filled also. As a parent, it those extra steps that ensure I will be coming back next time I am in town.

Long islands were good. We had the duck bao buns, general tsao chicken and a shrimp pad Thai. Everything was delicious. Very good flavor on everything. Maybe just a little more duck on the bao buns. But will definitely visiting again.

Very similar to Dan Dan, a clean, modern & fusion take on Chinese/Szechuan cuisine that's tailored somewhat to local tastes. Also has a bar area serving drinks. You can get soup dumplings, pad thai, dry pot, stir fry, etc. - an interesting variety of things. Authentic? Not quite. However food is decent, nice seating area. Good for lunch or non-experienced Chinese food goers.

My fellow yelpers came through with good reviews that led me here. We picked up takeout on a rainy day and it did not disappoint! Our order included dry pot with chicken, duck baobuns, noodles and of course General Tsao's chicken. Looking forward to the next order in/takeout day to try some other dishes. We may even stop to eat in one day.

Some of the absolute BEST food I have ever had.. literally. We had the cumin lamb noodles (AMAZING) and the General Tsaos chicken. Both had just the right amount of spiciness and I definitely want more before we leave Philly!! Absolute no complaints!!

Can't speak to the service or ambiance as we only got takeout, I picked it up myself. Food was pretty good, the Double Sautéed pork was legit Szechuan, the Lo Mein was typical. A little on the expensive side, seems to me like they're going for the trendoid Center City bar crowd more than quality food.

We decided to give this place a try while in Philadelphia given such great Yelp reviews! Though the restaurant is beautiful and has great ambience, the food was lackluster. We really wanted to enjoy the food, as we are big fans of Chinese cuisine, however, this was far from what we expected. The lychee drink was refreshing and strong which was a great start. We ordered the scallion pancake which was average. The soup dumplings were decent as well. It was the dan dan noodles that really disappointed us. The noodles were super dry and coated with chili oil, leaving a grimy and gritty residue feeling in our mouths. It lacked flavor and seasoning, and all that we could taste was this odd texture. Wish we tried other items on the menu to hopefully counterbalance these noodles, but the items we did order were not delicious enough to make up for it.

Really delicious food. Atmosphere was chic with moody lighting. Wait staff was very friendly. They were able to accommodate for my celiac: all items can be adjusted to be gluten free, except their bao buns. We ordered the pad Thai, the curry chicken, and the duck bao buns. The pad Thai was amazing and the curry chicken was very flavorful. I couldn't have the bao buns because of my celiac, but my partner said it was delicious. Overall, lovely place.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free friendly

Came here for Lunar new year dumplings.Ordered take out.Total was $30 for 4 items- wontons in Chili sauce, scallion pancake, soup dumplings, and duck bao.Ambiance is dark and intimate.Duck bao had almost no duck, which didn’t make me feel like it was worth the $9 (for 3).Soup dumplings were good, but I recommend eating these in the restaurant- not take out.Scallion pancake was goodWontons in Chili sauce was good tooOverall decent Chinese food. I’ve had better and Ive had worse takeout.

I have been here twice for lunch. It has amazing food and the service is always quick and great! I normally get bao buns and the spicy fried chick with dried peppers. When I am craving Chinese and this is my go to

The food here was delicious. Probably some of the best Chinese food I ever had. The chefs in the kitchen know what they are doing and from what the server told me are from mainland china. The ambience and decor was modern and hip. I will likely be coming back to try more of their menu.

Best Chinese I've had in ages! I honestly wish we'd dined in because I liked the vibe and the cocktails look great, but with two wild little ones who don't always do well in restaurants, my husband and I decided to get takeout to eat in our hotel room. We got the chicken pot stickers, Shanghai soup dumplings, green beans, chicken lo mein, sesame noodles, and Jing Jiang pork. The lo mein was maybe the least exciting because it was fairly standard lo mein (but still good!), while everything else was REALLY good. Like, the sesame noodles were so perfect I honestly wish I'd gotten an extra order to bring back to DC, where I haven't found decent Chinese yet (and especially sesame noodles). We filled our cooler with our leftovers and actually did have them for dinner the following night back in DC, and I'm so glad we did. So good! If we stay in the Rittenhouse Square area again next time we visit Philly we'll definitely be back!

This place is very similar to Dan Dan. We ordered dumpling dishes, scallion fish, noodles, long hot pepper steak (memory a bit fuzzy now)The dumpling dishes are very good. Fish is not great to our taste. Service is attentive. Will come back again for the dumplings and scallion pancakes (very good! Not greasy, but balanced flavor and crispy)
