They make the best vegan sandwiches...especially the breakfast sandwiches! Im not a coffee drinker, but they offer a lot of cool non coffee drinks also.
Really great coffee shop and amazing g sandwiches. I got the salami (vegan of course) and my wife got blt. Great bread. Great flavors. Pickled peppers was nice touch. Amazing coffee.
Went here with a few friends and was blown away by all the vegan options! I had the Grizzly breakfast sandwich, it was incredible. They also have some baked goods and a great selection of drinks. I added marshmallows to my golden latte 😋
The Kropotkin included Love Again Local salami, pesto mayo, mixed greens, onion, and pickled sweet peppers. Online ordering offers a choice of salami or Tofurky, but the employee didn't ask me. They did ask me which bread I wanted, but seemed annoyed when I didn't know the choices. Instead of using customer names, the employees just yell out orders, which is confusing and hard to hear. It took a half hour to receive our sandwiches, but they were good.
I don't remember exactly what I got but it was a spicy breakfast sandwich which they substituted a bagel in. It had vegan bacon, egg, a cheese sauce, and I believe avocado. Man it was good and spicy which was unexpected. I LOVE heat and too often I just ignore when something says spicy as I can barely taste it outside of like a Thai place where I order 5/5 heat. This on the other hand actually did have some noticeable kick which I was very pleasantly surprised by. Great flavor, amazingly fresh. I walked from 30th St. Station to try this place out and I think I will do so again, its that good. Staff was also friendly.
I was excited to find an all vegan coffee shop and the breakfast sandwich I had was amazing. A little pricey, but most things vegan are unfortunately in this city…
You can get hot food to go. It’s the same thing you’re perfectly capable of making at home. You’ll forget it as soon as you’re done. Updated from previous review on 2024-09-20

Great place for light bites in this area. Very walkable and close to Clark Park. Fully vegan menu is always nice! Beautiful displays of baked goods behind glass, like a classic cafe. Never disappointed in their sweet treats! Variety of vegan breakfast and lunch sandwiches--they use tofu for the "egg" which is a nice touch and makes it feel a bit more healthful. Biscuits are very crumbly, great texture especially for vegan. Only downside of the sandwiches is that they're served in extremely hot foil wrapping--I'm talking, so hot I very nearly burned my hands just carrying it back to a table. So be careful! The ambiance in the place is a downside in general. I have nothing against heavy metal "grindcore" music but having it playing in the background of a cafe is very distracting! There is also not a lot of interior seating as they seem to do mostly takeout type business. Very beautiful mural painting inside though, which is a plus! As a cafe it does serve coffee based drinks as well, but I don't recommend these if you actually like coffee. It's the typical burnt, rancid robusto that most places serve nowadays, which is only really good for adding caffeination to a milkshake-y Starbucks style drink. I don't like it, but it's hard to dock them for it too much when it's come to be the expectation for cafes nowadays. All in all, a recommend with a few minor caveats. You'll enjoy as long as you don't hang out there while eating and drinking, and don't order the black coffee! Updated from previous review on 2024-08-17
I will come here (or the other location) every time I’m in Philly. The coffee is great and the breakfast sandwiches are perfect

The vibe of this coffee shop is so unique, you must stop in. Coffee and vegan pastries here are excellent, the salted chocolate chip cookie is so good. I come here a good amount although it can be pricey. My favorite sandwich I’ve tried is the Kropotkin. I noticed sometimes their bagels are a bit stale and/or untoasted so choose a different bread for your breakfast sandwich.

Absolutely awesome place! Best breakfast sandwiches we’ve had in a long time and the coffee is excellent too. I love the grindcore theme, but if you absolutely can’t stand metal music, you may not want to come here because that is what music is playing. Very creative, casual vibe. Deserves five stars for sure!

All vegan, great vibe and taste, and importantly has enough stock of everything on menu. Best cafe for a vegan in Philly.
Roast Beast sandwich: phenomenal. 6/5 Whatever peanut butter mousse bomb thing I had the other day: very very good 5/5 Breakfast sandwiches: pretty good. 3.5/5 Other sandwiches: good. 4/5 Coffee: pretty good 3.5/5 Other desserts: good 4/5 The main issues are - The ambiance is very ehhhh. Metal music is cool, but you’d think the space would go more all in on the theme? The space is way too bright for the metal music (the walls are white). Black/darker paint would go a long way in transforming the space. The tables are slightly too high for the booth. There’s lots of empty space. There’s a giant mural on one wall, which is cool, but then otherwise the walls are completely empty. - They close so early! - Service can be questionable at times? The baristas aren’t always the nicest/friendliest
Love having more than one Grindcore House. Atmosphere at West is just a little stuffy compared to the very lived in original location. Quality across the board though with no dips in service or food!
