Thank heavens for Colonial Beach Local Foodie’s referral. Meet a gentleman at Thousand Trails resort just outside of Colonial Beach Va. that had a thick Upstate NY accent. We preceded to reminisce about family in Upstate NY,, of course food rolled into the conversation,. That’s how I came across Nonna Lena’s Italian Cuisine. I stopped by the restaurant by myself a couple of later.. Thought I’d get a quick lunch fix. Wrong! My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I the chief my plate of Eggplant Parmesan. What a wonderful freshly made dinner (plus leftovers for 2 extra meals). The staff all were very friendly. Chiefly came out to see how I liked my meal. He shared some details about the newly open restaurant & homemade recipes, etc. He mentioned breakfast was also served and somehow in the conversation he decided to send me home with a sample of sausages & gravy along with my husbands meal. OMGoodness, the next day my breakfast was fantastic. Foodie’s note. Their food is prepared fresh from scratch daily😊. Don’t past by Colonial Beach Va. without dinning at Nonna Lena’s Italian several times.

Fettuccine bolognese was amazing. Perfectly al dente pasta. The ragù is so good that it will make you re-think some of your life choices. One of the most authentic Italian meals I have had in a long time. The complimentary pickled vegetables for the table were a throwback to how my Italian great grandmother served them. This BYOB deserves your attention, soon and often. Tell everyone!
Fantastic food. Best pasta we ever had. I might make a special trip from Houston to eat here again.
Delicious!!
The gnocchi was delicious!
The food here is absolutely amazing and the staff is so friendly. We come here probably 2 times a month on date night and have yet to have anything but a world class meal. The gnocchi here is maybe the best I’ve had inside or outside of the USA and eggplant parm is spectacular! It’s BYOB as well which makes significantly less expensive compared to other Italian restaurants. Highly recommend everyone put this on your list if you are visiting Philadelphia!

The food was great. I’m so glad I was in town for Restaurant Week and was able to try 3 courses. The service was excellent. I loved the calamari, chicken piccata, and tiramisu.

A Delightful Dining Experience
La Nonna Ristorante BYOB, located at 214 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147, is a family-owned gem where fresh pasta is made daily.
The light and pillowy gnocchi come in a variety of imaginative sauces. We tried the Garlic Alfredo Gnocchi, which was very filling and tasted terrific. The veal parmigiana was a standout, with a crisp, flavorful crust and a light homemade sauce. The Pompano special was another highlight, perfectly cooked with gnocchi and vegetables in a delicate white wine and garlic sauce. For appetizers, we enjoyed the crispy but not oily calamari, grilled octopus with capers and garlic for a salty-lemony taste, and Burrata with soft cheese, grilled peppers, and tomato.
Our meal ended on a high note with their light and flavorful tiramisu, lemon cake, and ricotta pistachio cake, the perfect finale to a satisfying dining experience.
Stepping into La Nonna Ristorante BYOB, you're not just a guest, you're part of the family. The owner, a beautiful young woman, has inherited her father’s legacy of hospitality and a keen eye for quality. Her dedication to ensuring every guest feels welcomed and valued is evident in every aspect of the dining experience.
