Came into the Reading Terminal and wasn't really sure what to get and ended up ordering from here and sadly I could have ordered from a better location. It was a bit expensive for the small of the portion and the quality of the meal was pretty meh. Went with the kimchi beef and white rice and honestly the beef was just too soft and the portion of rice was lacking. They filled the platter with a ton of kimchi and other vegetables to makeup for the space that could have been put with a bit more meat... pause.

I had General Tao’s chicken, shrimp chicken chow mei fun.
It didn't smell like General Chicken and was really delicious!
Chow noodles were thin noodles and freshly stir-fried with vegetables, so they were very delicious. Usually Chinese restaurants have simple sauces, but this one was really good!
The chicken in the chow mein had a very slight smell, but it was still pretty good. I like it because it’s cheaper at Reading Terminal Market!

I got pepper steak & onion. It cost me $12.75. It was done cooking in about 5 minutes or less. Service was ok. I ordered very quickly & didn’t have to wait in any line or anything. The food was actually soooo good! I would definitely buy it again. The reason for 4 stars is because it was only a small amount of food for the price I paid. I can definitely go to a hood Chinese store & get more bang for my buck!

Shanghai Gourmet is a must-visit spot in the bustling chaos of Reading Terminal Market. With a counter that offers prime seating for people-watching, you can sit here for 30 minutes (or more) and enjoy the beautiful mess of activity around you.
Their Szechuan fish is absolutely perfect—flavorful and spicy, just what I’m looking for every single time. It’s one of my go-tos, a dish I can count on to deliver that comforting, fiery kick I constantly crave.
Check them out!

I ate here before doing some Christmas Shopping today. HIGHLY recommend it for your lunch break. Personally, it feels like Epcot in Florida with all the different International foods you can get under one roof! HIGHLY recommend this Reading Terminal Market tenant!

During one of our weekend trip to Philadelphia we discovered Shanghai Gourmet inside the Reading terminal market. Because it’s inside the market so it can get a bit crowded and loud.
The first day we ordered a general tsao chicken and a shrimp fried rice, after we discovered it was surprisingly delicious We went back the second day, and ordered more fried rice, dumplings, and noodle soups, and a beef, broccoli, . Everything was delicious and tasted authentic.
Price per order was not as cheap as I expected, but for us to be able to locate restaurant quality dishes inside the Reading market it was worth it.
Definitely recommend @WineDinenVacy

Shanghai Gourmet in Reading Terminal Market is an interesting option if you're looking for Asian food in the heart of Philadelphia, although the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The wok I tried was average, nothing exceptional, but it served its purpose. 🍜 While the experience of eating inside the market is quite pleasant, with the unique vibe of the place, the gluten-free options were somewhat limited, so it was not a great choice for those looking for those types of options with more variety. However, to get away from fast food, it's fine. The food tastes good, although it doesn't stand out among other Asian food options.
If you're in the area and want something quick, Shanghai Gourmet is a decent option, but don't expect a spectacular dining experience. 🌱🍴

This market was such an experience! I highly recommend. The food was beyond amazing we had, the pretzels, Cajun food, cheese steaks, oysters and more. The people were friendly and the atmosphere was great.

The food is delicious and the prices are good too. The reason I'm giving Shanghai Gourmet 3 stars is the owner is quick to judge.
Me and a buddy, both people of color, we sat at the stool and the female owner quickly came over to tell us that we can't sit there. I then frankly told her that I was there to order.
I don't know what sort of past experience she might've had in her business, but that's not an acceptable way of treating customers.

This is my first time ordering from here. The Chicken & Noodles Veggie Soup was pleasantly flavorful. The veggies were crunchy and noodles were a nice texture. The broth was delicious. I will be returning again. ??
