Best experience I've ever had at a restaurant, and I've dined at some of the best restaurants in the world.
The water was very short with my group. We felt very rushed and he often spoke to us before even getting to our table
Super tasty sushi and great service. I am gluten free and have a couple other food allergies. Shoutout to our waiter, Alex (I think!), who was able to tweak several dishes for me. I felt safe eating here AND enjoyed the food, which can sometimes be a trade off. This is NOT a BYO as some local blogs and articles have mis-tagged as. I did not see any mention of a bar or drinks on OpenTable or their website, so I called ahead. They have a full bar and our cocktails were excellent. I hope in time they add to their wine offerings as it was a bit limited. For our party of two, the tables were spread out just enough that you didn't feel like you were dining with your neighbors. I appreciated that the two-tops were longer, easily accommodating the amount of plates that tend accumulate on the table when dining out for sushi. Everything we had was excellent and it was a great value. Hoping to go back soon for the Omakase!
Fantastic steak! And the sushi is fresh and offers a great variety. We have found our new Japanese spot!
This is a beautiful space with excellent food and service. They are also very accommodating for those who require gluten-free dining.
Umami Steak and Sushi Bar was a great spot for a quick business lunch in the Old City neighborhood. Enter on Walnut Street and take a short flight of stairs down to the basement restaurant. Though service was a bit hurried/terse and the menu on the pricier side, the food was terrific: some of the best pork I've had in a bowl of ramen--incredibly tender and flavorful. I also enjoyed the ramen bowl's flavor bomb and, though not marinated, the soft-boiled egg was great. Some ramen-shop style table options (e.g., sesame seeds, pepper powder) would've brought it over the top. The specialty sushi rolls my dining companion ate also received rave reviews.
Sushi always fresh and impeccably served. Good variety on the menu! Been there 3x with consistent results!
Awesome restaurant for sushi AND steak! Yummy sushi rivaling Morim_t_, but at lower price point. Highly recommended!

They claim to have the best sushi in Philadelphia and, based on rather limited experience (perhaps a dozen kid the seeming hundreds), they very well may be right. Not to be missed. V nice service, too.
Soon as we walked in Alex was pleasant and so helpful with the menu selection. Great personality and made our dining experience even more enjoyable for our first time. The food was so fresh and delicious! The ginger crème brûlée was the perfect ending to our dinner! Definitely will be going back to try the Omakase next!
One of the best Japanese meals ever! Outstanding sashimi and overall menu. Great selection of sake! Thank you Alex and Kenny!!!!
Fantastic sushi experience. The ambience is meh but the sushi is some of the best I've had.
Steak was excellent, sliced in bite sized morsels tableside (I was wondering why no knife was provided!) and easily fed 2 people in addition to 2 small plates (which are indeed small). Too bad there is no accessible entrance - I won't come back because of how difficult the stairs into the dining room are.
