This is my favorite bread in the city, I feel so lucky that they come to my local farmer’s market each week. Every variety I’ve tried is so delicious and unique and I appreciate their use of PA grains.

Such a go to in the city. Always fresh. Always delicious. Never fails, especially with their weekly revolving breads. That hawaiian!

Ursa bread is fantastic. Since the pandemic when we were incredibly lucky to have this bread delivered to our door to now it has been consistently wonderful bread baked with love. I go to the farmers markets specifically for this bread. Philadelphia has a number of great new small bakeries but Ursa is at the top!

Best bread hands down! Made with locally grown and freshly milled grains. Lots of different loaves to choose from. Try them all
Claire Kopp McWilliams is more than a baker of amazing breads, she's an artist who cares passionately about her products. Ursa Bakery's breads are rustic, chewy, flavor-packed--with a bowl of soup you've got a stick-to-your-ribs meal. Plus her grains are locally sourced and her loaves are a couple blocks away every Thursday at my local farmers' market. She co-authored Mastering Bread, a cookbook with no less a Philly food icon than Marc Vetri. When I think of the expression "think globally, buy locally" it's artisans like Claire who come to mind. It's important to patronize local businesses and easy to do when the product is so skillfully-made and satisfying.

The best bread in Philadelphia hands down. Their fougasse is fantastic and is always at our Saturday brunch. The sésame and seedy breads are fantastic and I wish they made their special miches every week (don’t miss the seaweed one if available). We make a special trip to the East Falls market just for the bread - and it fortunately freezes well so we can enjoy it all week.

The best bread in Philadelphia . I love the seedy and the specials. I brought several loaves to friends in Vermont who say- wow we can’t get good bread here like this. The newsletter is always worth reading because it’s so sweet & funny & filled with personality.
