Came with a group. Charged extra because they decided to bring in a musician an hour into eating. Waited forever for food. Management was rude.

My husband and I were in the area to celebrate our anniversary and were looking for a special place for dinner. All the reviews we saw suggested Con Alma. The atmosphere and live music were on point. It was welcoming and the really enjoyable to listen to live jazz. However, for the price point of the food and reviews we read, we were expecting our meals and drinks to be much better than they were. The appetizers’ temperature were completely off and the look of them very unappealing, and the taste and quality were not great. Our main course was mediocre. The service was attentive. I just wish there would have been some more honest reviews of the food before we had made our reservation.

I was going back and forth or whether or not i was going to review my bad experience, but after seeing Con Alma's responses to other reviews here... holy unprofessional, batman. Hire a PR person, geez. Take an online course on crisis communication. A business should never be fighting and arguing with customers on reviews like its an episode of Jerry Springer. Con Alma, go look at how other companies respond to negative reviews. Anyway, now on to mine.
Like others, I also had a bad experience with the music fee. Con Alma thinks because they have asterisks easter egg'd around the restaurant, that makes it okay to charge for people to listen to music they didnt ask for, 7 days a week during regular dinner hours. $40 extra for 4 people to listen to 25 minutes of music that could have been a spotify playlist is asinine and robbery. And don't try to bring it up to staff, they'll kindly explain that its their unflinching policy and to kick rocks. You need to be aware that this fee exists and its PER PERSON, so dont even think about bringing a large party.
The salmon was pretty good but whatever grains it was over was terrible. We liked the foccacia, but it was burnt to the pan. Everyone else said their food was nothing to write home about. The drinks were good but very overpriced. Food and drinks took forever. Between parking downtown, music fees, food and overpriced drinks, your 4-person outing is now around $400+ and you wont even be getting an Altius-style experience with that price tag. If you're okay with that, have fun at Con Alma.

Very strange. The staff got weird especially Suzie, I couldnt really tell who was my waitress. Then they said they were out of octopus on the the menu, then they came out and said they found one piece and they fed me that and charged me $12 for it. I've only been there a couple of times but they're not really that nice there. The only good thing is the music. Oh and whoopie you serve trifle big deal. It wasnt all that.I'll go back to eating at Canes for $10 with my earphones on.

When one of the chefs comes to your table to delight in what you’ve ordered(pesto pasta and fried mozzarella salad) and thank you for coming to the restaurant, you know you’re in a classy place! The live jazz was phenomenal and the food was delicious. Every person, including those working, were simply happy to be there. What a fantastic experience we had as visitors from Va. Thank you!

Best ambiance possible with the beautiful jazz music playing from a real turn table, fabulous creative and delicious cocktails, wonderfully attentive and professional staff, this place is just a delight! We stumbled upon it during Picklesburg and what a lucky find it was! Because it was so terribly hot out that day, we didn’t have much of an appetite, but we did try the focaccia and it was absolute perfection. I loved that they did something creative with the idea of “pickling” for some of their cocktails instead of just a shot of pickle juice. Looking forward to coming back for lunch or dinner! This is a real gem in the city and I can’t believe I’m just now discovering it!

Music good. Ambiance good. Food was awful. Spoiled tuna, unevenly cooked sea bass, cold when it came out. Nothing on the plates paired well. Wine was not good. I would STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD. And management did nothing to redress this when i brought the problems to their attention other than to say it was my fault for not telling the server, and that i was being mean. STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD.

Our server was spectacular and the food was delicious. We ended up have 3 full courses, a bottle of wine and two coctail. I would however say that the host left a lot to be desired. I fact we almost left because of her pretentious attitude. We were in shorts and maybe a tad underdressed but nothinh too crazy. That said dinner was $300. So be prepared that this is not a budget conscious place. All it all it was a nice evening. We would have enjoyed it better if we were inside. I highly recommend that you sit inside, so make reservations. Outside was just way too hot and out table was so wobbly that the server moved us, as the wine almost fell on the ground due to the table issue. That said out server Paul was outstanding and his recommendations made the evening (spot on, especially the pairings).

Eric was the star of our experience with his remarkable attentiveness and affable personality. Food was delicious and distinctive. Drinks and wine menus matched the five-star experience. Highly recommend, especially if you enjoy live jazz!
