We decided to walk through the Southside down to the Highline to see what's new. We checked out the Burgers menu and then continued to De fer @ The Highline to take the chill off. Arriving around 11am, it was quiet with just the right music buzz and volume for a pleasant stay. The barrista was pleasant and set to making our cappuccinos like a real coffee shop. They were beautifully presented and delicious. The shop has a french motif but opens to a modern industrial lobby with comfy chairs, where it seems a number of small work meetings were taking place. The lobby is large, and the furniture is well spaced for privacy. The lobby has charging available for electronics. As a bonus, if you are reducing your carbon footprint, the parking garage has vehicle charging stations. We left De fer for a walk on the trail as noon approached, and the shop got busier with people coming in for snacks, salads, and cold drinks.

Absolutely the best pour-over I've had in ages! The staff is always friendly, and boy can they crank out some seriously tasty breakfast sandwiches. The place is quaint with plenty of room to sit, relax, and enjoy your coffee. I wish wish wish this place was closer to my neighborhood, but I'll definitely be back! Can't wait.

The new Southside location has a different feel than the strip district location. Both are cool in their own ways.Kid-friendliness: Lots of space nearby for running around and having fun.

Staying at the Sheraton for an event wanted to try coffee other than hotel and one next door. Well worth the walk and nice views of Pittsburgh! To get there go up the stairs near the street or go around to the courtyard and up stairs or escalator. Cute shop, great coffee AND blueberry muffin was incredible. Co mingling space you can chill at as well.

Pretty nice coffee. The workers are super nice ( there was a girl and a guy in the AM) pretty amazing area to work, just have coffee with nice outdoor views. First 2 hours parking are free in the building. I loved the industrial vibe this building has. Recommend.

I stopped by here this past Sunday with my wife and our twins for our morning coffees. Every Sunday we try to hit up a local coffee shop and on this morning we decided to do De Fer at the Highline. We had actually stopped by here once before during the winter but they have different summer and winter hours, so make sure you know when they are open. The coffee shop itself was brightly lit with a fun tile floor and a couple of tables and a bar like area with stools. It also opened into a larger public area of the high line if more seating was needed. For my coffee on this morning I decided to got with a hot latte while my wife went with an iced mocha and we added in a ham and cheese handpie. After a couple of minute wait, we had our coffees and were on our way. My coffee here ended up being quite good as you could taste the rich and dark coffee which was in good proportion to the whole milk which you could taste and played a nice backup role to the coffee. After I had some coffee I dug into the handpie and holy crap, it was even better than i remember it being at the other De Fer location. It's made of flakey puff pastry with some finishing salt on the top and the inside has the ham, cheese and a bit of mustard. There is also a caramelized onion flavor as well some herbs that come into play. Now that I have had it twice I think I can say that this is currently my favorite breakfast item. The ham and cheese is your standard fare and what sets it apart is that flaky pastry, mustard and finishing salt. My wife also really enjoyed her iced mocha. The bottom line for me is that I would definitely head back here again in the future. De Fer hit all the right notes for me between the coffee and the handpie.

This place is really cool! Delicious coffee, and the interior has such a fun, moody feel! The one downside is the hours; they don’t open until 8:00am, and are closed by 3:00pm (makes it hard to visit with work/obligations during that time frame). They do not have city views from their building, the “views” pictures are from the end of the block at that over look thing. You can absolutely take your coffee/food out there though and sit. Can’t wait to try some of their food options, they sound incredible.

Love de fer!! My friend ordered an iced latte and they charged her for added flavor because she asked for flavor, but the latte didn't taste like any flavor was added at all. Just a constructive and honest review, I love de fer and want people to love their drinks and know that y'all do too. I'm not sure if the flavors are known to be lighter, but thought it may be helpful to leave this review. Basically just try to make sure the flavor comes through more, since people are paying for it. Said with love. This is my favorite coffee shop in pgh

In town for a Carnegie Mellon graduation, we stopped at De Fer for breakfast. Everyone ordered something different. Everyone' food was very good. The drink offerings were plentiful and we enjoyed each one. We recommend De Fer.

Let’s get real. This place has essentially zero ambience and they don’t even have any pastries or legitimate food to accompany of the drinks. Good luck finding it. They have views of nothing other than cement/brick walls
