As others have stated, I had a reservation booked, but showed up to a sign on the door stating they were closed due to maintenance issues. I understand things happen that are outside of a restaurants control, but they should have turned off online reservations and/or notified effected customers. This was a huge inconvenience and makes me less than likely to return.

We had seen that this restaurant was closed about three weeks ago, the sign on the door said due to a plumbing problem. But a couple weeks later when I was able to make a reservation online, I figured they were open and had fixed their issue. I made my reservation and got several reminders about it. When we went to the restaurant for our scheduled reservation the same sign was still on the door saying there was a plumbing problem, and all the lights were off. Very ignorant that the restaurant is still allowing reservations to be made via OpenTable when they are in fact, not open..
Ignore the stars. I never got in the door. We arrived on time to a sign on the door that the restaurant had plumbing problems and was closed. Sorry. Sorry was not good enough. No call. No text. Nothing. Just a ruined evening. I will never return. And will do my best to discourage others. It's no way to run a restaurant. I hope the plumbing problems were real and not just a way for the staff to dis the customers while they went home or went partying.
When we arrived we were greeted by a note on the door that the restaurant was closed due to a plumbing problem. We were here from out of town. It would have been great if Open Table or the restaurant had noticed us so we could Find a different restaurant.
Such a cozy neighborhood gem. Good cocktails, small but well-curated wine list, and great food. The Caesar salad is excellent and we shared the mushroom ravioli and the meatloaf (this is not your mom's meatloaf!!). Both entrees were delicious. Our server Grace was not only warm and friendly, but knowledgable and attentive. We'll definitely return!
Lovely brunch! I especially liked the Eggs Benedict with perfectly cooked salmon. Specialty cocktails were delicious. Fair pricing. Highly recommended.
Really cool little restaurant- great cocktails and food . Place has a NY feel but with outstanding friendly service and affordable prices
our server evidently didn't put our order in. or the kitchen botched it. Anyway, 45 minutes later we got our burgers. 10 minutes after that we got our salmon sandwiches. They did comp half the bill. Food was

The atmosphere was amazing as soon as we walked in. The waiter was very nice as well and the food was outstanding. I got the prime rib and it was on par with steaks that are twice as expensive at other steakhouses.

While I'm quick to recommend France's as it's beautifully designed and I've always had GREAT service. It pains me to say this, their food can be inconsistent. When they are "on" it's incredible yet at times it can be underwhelming at best.. Even with the same dishes I've had totally different experiences. I make a point to continuously dine there so I obviously enjoy the overall experience and am looking forward to their new offerings. It's just that 20% of the time food seems off.
We ordered Caesar Salad and the Prime Rib Wednesday, 10/25. My fault regarding the Caesar Salad as it was Romaine Lettuce vs. iceberg. I did not read the menu close enough as not a fan of Romaine. Salads were a good size. Dressing was more of a clear Caesar vs. a creamy. Prime Rib with a side of mashed potatoes & a mixed vegetable was adequate. Food was just not hot enough. Waitstaff was terrific & she asked if we wanted the meal reheated. We declined & took the meal home. I've been to Frances several time. & the food has been excellent. I may have just ordered the wrong item. I like Frances & will return for sure. Service though is top notch.
Our server was excellent, friendly & knowledgeable regarding the cocktails & dishes. She offered that the kitchen could make the lamb chops small plates into an entrée, and I requested medium rare-medium. All five chops came out well-done, and by well-done, I mean charred on the underside which was disingenuously hidden from view. I somehow ate two of them! After I brought the charring to our server's attention, she had the kitchen prepare 3 new chops, matching my original request. We were comped for one dessert but I felt that the resto should've covered my entrée. Next time we search for Saturday night parking in Shadyside, it'll be for Girasole or another non-mediocre establishment.
Top 3 worse meals of all time. The halibut was overcooked dry and absolutely tasteless. It came with a side of Mac & cheese. Where was the cheese ? it was dry pasty over cooked & no flavor. The booths were crowded and uncomfortable the restaurant was hot. However the service was excellent but didn't make up for uninspired over priced bland food. Big disappointment no wonder there was only 1 other diner.
The food is mediocre, portions were abundant, but the presentation was not too great.Great atmosphere, wonderful for an intimate dinner of two.
