We chose to sit at a booth in the bar area which was a mistake on our part. We didn't realize that our server was the bartender. The bar was crowded so she was very busy there and not able to check on us very often. We normally sit at a table in the dining area and have a dedicated server which we will do again the next time we visit. We really enjoy Max's and eat there a few times in a year. If you love German food I highly recommend this restaurant.
I went to this restaurant because we love German food. We were not disappointed. The schnitzel was amazing as was the red cabbage. The spätzle was very good. I had onion rings and they were okay. The iced tea is one of the best I've ever had. The einlauf soup was exceptional. The area that my husband comes from, it's more like an egg drop soup with vegetables in it. But this one was with semolina dumplings and it was even better.
We are visiting Pittsburgh on a work trip. We found Max's based on what is close to our lodging. The building itself is very charming. Inside is clean and super welcoming. Our waitress was Jean and she was very kind, helpful, and quick with anything we asked for. The food was fresh and came out quickly. A very authentic German menu.
