Einlauf Soup
A light, rich chicken broth, generously sprinkled with home made einlauf noodles and seasoned with a delicate blend of spices. Our einlauf noodles are made by pouring a seasoned mixture of flour and eggs into briskly boiling chicken broth.

Sauerbraten
Top quality beef marinated in a century-old recipe from the Erhardt family of enzweihingen in the south of Germany, then roasted to perfection and topped with a seasoned sauce.
Baked Kassler Rippchen
Smoked pork loin chops slowly simmered in our homemade sauerkraut and served with mustard sauce. This is a delicacy from kassel in the province of Hesse.

Mild cod filets coated with a potato breading and sauteed.
Bavarian Peasant Platter
"Bauern platte". A heaping mound of our famous sauerkraut, surrounded by a grilled bratwurst, knackwurst and a smoked loin pork chop.
Leberkase
A finely textured sausage loaf made from a blend of pork and beef seasoned with spices imported from Bavaria. We grill each slice lightly and serve it smothered with sauteed onions.

This is the only AUTHENTIC German restaurant in Pittsburgh. The other two “German” restaurants in the city are good, but too Americanized. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of Max’s, but I’ll definitely be back. The food is top notch. Also, apparently this place was originally Max and Erma’s (not the chain) and at one point (if not still) had the largest collection of Tiffany lamps in the county. I’ve never seen them as ceiling fans like this. Very cool vibe in...

I have nothing bad to say! The food was absolutely amazing, the service would fill up my drink without needing to ask and the old timey atmosphere is amazing! Overall 10/10 (5.0 stars)!

Terrific find. Previously lived in Germany for 15 years and found the food and drink authentic. The Rubin, potato pancakes, and kase spatzle were very good. The Weisen Bier was as good as it gets. Service and ambience were perfect.
