We just picked up a meatball, Italian beef and a patsy( Italian). Absolutely fantastic! The Italian beef with the homemade giardiniera is definitely the best I've ever had! The Italian was packed with quality meats sliced nice and thin with fresh lettuce, tomato and onions. The homemade meatballs and sauce were also fantastic! I could go on and on about the quality and taste of the sandwiches or how friendly everyone was, but you have to try it for yourself! You will not be disappointed!!...read full review

Merante Brothers Italian American Market is a beloved third-generation family business in Pittsburgh that has become a true gem in the community. Located on Marion Avenue in Uptown, this charming spot is part deli, part market, part sandwich shop—and total perfection. The family members, including the owner’s mother and Marco, are warm and welcoming. The market offers a wide range of Italian specialty items, fresh produce, hot and prepared meals, and a deli case full of deliciousness. The food is consistently excellent, with favorites like the house-made Italian sausage, meatball hoagie, and the famous Patsy sandwich. The Italian hoagie is a standout, and the bakery section features homemade desserts such as magic bars and blueberry lemon sugar cookies that are highly praised. Marco creates incredible sandwiches, artistically stacked with the freshest ingredients from Penn Mac and local produce, and his "sandwich of the day" often sells out before noon. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a big family-style table perfect for enjoying a meal. Customers appreciate the friendly staff and the professional, helpful service. The small shop also has a designated corner for authentic Italian kitchen and pantry essentials. The catering service is highly recommended, with Marco and his team providing excellent service. Despite occasional closures for repairs, Marco has come back stronger than ever, continuing to serve delicious food and desserts that keep customers coming back. Overall, Merante Brothers is a place that offers excellent food, hospitality, and a true sense of community in Pittsburgh.
