Decent food, but the way the service is structured makes it feel way more expensive than the other Chinese options on Forbes. The fish or chicken portions are usually smaller, and there is a high mandatory tip on parties size 4 and above which is a really small limit.
Jian’s Kitchen is a hidden gem of PGH! Although I’ve lived in the area for years, I somehow missed this place. The food was fantastic, with extensive vegetarian options. We had the veggie dumplings, Northeastern Mung Bean Clear Noodle, and the Hunan tofu. The spice on the tofu was perfect and the northeastern dish was exactly what we needed. The service was amazing also - and our waiter made sure everything met our expectations and dietary needs! 10 out of 10!

While not my personal taste, this is unique chinese, even for a neighborhood that is packed w great Asian foodThey seemed truly proud of what they made - a great sign. Flavors seemed more sweet or salty vs other chinese. I think had a bit of a russian influence. Some reminded me of American grandma home style food, just a bit wierder. Or like American fried food but w sweeter incorporations. If you are a foodie, try it, it’s unique, just not super for me
