We’ve been to Pigeon about 10 times and every time we’ve been pleased with the customer service, price, and quality of food. We love the friendliness, atmosphere, and culture created by this being where it is.
On a visit to Pittsburgh, our eight-year-old daughter was craving a bagel. Yelp brought us here and we’re so glad they did. Our daughter loved their plain bagel and plain schmear.
My wife ordered the plain bagel with strawberry schmear and I the sesame bagel with fig and honey schmear. The bagel had good texture, but the scmears lacked flavor. Both tasted like plain, which makes me think they accidentally gave us plain.
We also ordered a poppy pastry, which wasn’t put in our takeout bag.
The cinnamon honey latte was tasty!
I did enjoy seeing so many people in line. It seems like a true community spot.
Great bagels and tofu schmear. Carrot lox is especially good, but veggie sandwich depends on what veggies are in it (changed by day). Their coffee is also kind of bad (over pulled/bitter espresso in iced americano). But it’s not that expensive, so drinkable if you let most of the ice melt
Great bagels and coffee! Such a cute little place!
Even waiting in a long line, it was worth it!
Waited 30 minutes to get the wrong cream cheese on my over done bagel. If you want anything besides fish on your bagel, go somewhere else. No eggs, no bacon, ham, cheese, sausage, scrapple, potato, 🤮
As a native New Yorker. I am pretty particular about the bagels I enjoy and these bagels were delicious. The line to get in was pretty long. I did not love the cream cheese on my bagel, but that could be personal preference. Additionally, my coffee was tasty but not made correctly. Staff could use a little bit more training in this area. The staff was very polite and helpful. Line was long but I think that that is just a testament to how good the bagels are here. The only thing that could have improved the atmosphere was the placement of some tables. All in all a great shop.
Caught a slightly shorter line on a rainy day so I was finally able to check this place out. Even with a shorter line it was about 35-40 until I had my order. I was super excited to try the vegan lox, price was surprisingly reasonable. The bagel was delicious, the vegan shmere was perfect. But I gotta say I wasn’t a huge fan of the vegan lox order as a whole. The carrots were very thickly cut and very acidic. I think it would majorly benefit from deli style, super thinly sliced carrots. But even still the flavour of the vegan lox was largely off putting and the quarter inch slices just overwhelmed the whole thing an unpleasant taste. After a few bites I just had to take the carrots off, and thankfully I did because boy was it a treat to consume without them. If I came back I would stick solely to a classic bagel with vegan schemer. But the question remains, was it so good that I would wait in line another 40+ minutes to have that? Probably not, but I very glad I tried it!
carrot lox with the tofu herb schmear is delicious!!!!! great bagels
Absolutely the most overrated bagels in Pittsburgh. Overpriced and taste terrible. This is coming from a New Yorker who knows his bagels. To be fair, there are no good bagels in town so if you’re going to get some, save your money and get them somewhere else…they’ll be just as mediocre but for half the price.
Also the absolutely pretentious attitude of everyone who works there is very off putting.

Our family loves their bagels so much! This is the best bagel place in Pittsburgh. We usually go around 7:30-8am and yet we still have to wait a bit. My husband and I love their tofu herb schemer and surprisingly our toddlers also love their tofu herb schemer too! My favorite is their “veggie”, which comes with fresh veggies of the day in a bagel of your choice. So fresh and good!!!!! Their espresso drinks are not as good as you can get in a coffee specialized place, but it’s okay because their bagels are so delicious! For drink, I would just get their special latte (like pumpkin spice latte) or just regular drip coffee. They work so efficiently inside and hands down for their friendly and professional atmosphere!
Maybe would not recommend to go after 9am if you don’t want to wait so long.
They sometimes sell a bag of one day old bagels for sale and this is such a good deal.
Parking: Parking next to their shop is not usually bad when we go early like 7:30-8:00am

It’s candidly ridiculous for any bagel shop not to have TOMATOES, literally a quintessential part of a classic bagel sandwich. i don’t care if it’s October lol. they also had no chive/onion schmear—one of THE most popular schmears. the lack of these two fundamental ingredients was seriously disappointing, especially as I’ve been told almost unanimously that Pigeon has the best bagels in Pittsburgh. That said, the bagel itself was wonderful and my iced latte was solid. TLDR; great place to buy bagels, NOT a great place if you want a bagel sandwich and you’re a fan of tomatoes or chive schmear.

First of all, I grew up in Manhattan in a neighborhood that had some of the best bagels you can find anywhere. That being said, the bagels here are very good. The cream cheese on the bagel and Nova sandwich had a little bit of a different taste to it that I didn't love. Whatever they are mixing with it to make it spread more easily did not bode well with me. The smoked salmon was delicious. The wait time, and fact that you can't order ahead and just pick it up are deal breakers for me. Both times that I came here on a Sunday mid-to-late morning, I had to wait 45 minutes on a line because they don't accept phone orders.
I suppose if you are a local this is a Sunday ritual, but if you are just looking to get a great bagel and get on the road, it's probably not the place for you. In New York at any given bagel store I've never waited more than 5 minutes to be waited on and have my food prepared. So for that reason and the weird cream cheese, it's doubtful I will return. However, if you are local and want to make your own sandwich at home with your own cream cheese and smoked salmon, I would recommend this place for their bagels alone.
I have never been to Pigeon prior to today. My Uncle, who I have not seen for a few years, was in town and suggested going.
After waiting in line for roughly 45 minutes, we entered heaven! The garlic/sea salt bagel must have been sent from the gods. As someone who typically avoids bread products, I would happily eat one of them every day for the rest of my life.
Additionally, the staff members were very friendly and authentic. Thank you all for being so nice!

3.5 stars overall if I could…Good bagels, not sure they were worth a ridiculous 40 min wait in line at 9:45am Sunday morning. It seems they need a better order system, As they have one person taking all types of orders. Why not speed things up and have a spot dedicated to bagel only take away? Seems like there they have a good product, but the service system side needs some work.

I've had a lot of bagels in a lot of places. I was surprised to see a line out the door when we got there, but when I saw the sign that only allowed 5 customers at a time, I understood. We both got a Black & White (Marble) bagel with Herb cream cheese. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The cream cheese serving was perfect, however it was a bit one dimensional. I prefer more of a veggie cream cheese. This just tasted like green onion. It needed some more seasoning. The bagel was a bit small and the flavor of the pumpernickel was all there, but the plain was well plain. Needed a little more salt. The structure was also a touch dense. Would rather it be a little bigger with a wider structure. They need to let them prove longer. Overall in my opinion not worth the line (20 minutes). Nice neighborhood though.
