A little disappointing at the Pittsburgh trace echo location just round the corner from upmc mercy. a group of us went after work. No IPAs on tap and no food of any type, not even bags of chips or peanuts that you’d find in any bar. Only two beers were on tap, both lagers of modest taste. Come on owners, this place has so much potential to bring in regulars from upmc mercy round the corner! You can do better.
Meh. Nothing unique here. Expensive, and they have a sign that asks you (is it ever a request?) to bus your own tables. Isn’t that why I’m tipping you? Beer is overpriced, and not particularly interesting. Once is enough. Just another post industrial brewery with a desire to keep their workload to the bare minimum. Some of the other low reviews make me laugh too. It’s like some people are masochists for mediocrity.
Also funny in the last couple weeks about 30 reviews came in at once. Wondering what that is about..
This review pertains to my experience about a year ago (haven't been in since for obvious reasons that will follow... maybe things have changed since but judging by recent reviews probably not)
I visited this place a few times with some friends and the staff here got more and more rude, short, and curt with each visit. I try to not jump to conclusions at first encounters and assumed the bartender might have been having a bad day or overwhelming which I understand as having come from restaurant/customer service jobs. The other visits I noticed the same condescending, rude and almost hostile attitude from 1 bartender in particular, named Atiya (sp?) and I believe the manager or GM Katie. They both could not have gone out of their way to be more dismissive, cold and rude when literally just asking for suggestions or trying to strike a simple conversation (when it was not busy to make matters even more awkward).
To add more insult to injury, after each encounter I noticed how quick they were to go back to laughing and socializing with their friends making the entire situation even more alienating.
For a place that pride's itself on "inclusion" and "welcoming all walks of life" or whatever their proposed creed is I could not have received the opposite feeling more.
I'm not going to comment on the actual beer as in this day in age there is a brewery or independent beer company on just about every block within the city that offers similar brews. What many of these other places DO offer though is a non-faux attitude on ACTUAL customer inclusion, service, friendliness and a non-pretentious "inner circle" environment that Trace has failed on repeatedly. Many other reviews here note the same...
Cool brewery with dope beer and a chill vibe. Too bad they allow their bathrooms to be tagged with pro-Hamas graffiti and apparently don’t care. I can’t see myself going back to a place that allows this crap.
Pro tip:
I used to love Trace. I loved having a place I could walk to where I could read and relax with my dog after some of my more stressful days at work.
I loved the staff and tried to be a postive, warm customer since I've been a bartender. I know how hard the job is. And I genuinely enjoyed helping out with glassware, and always tipping 50% because I thought these were the kind of folks that would treat me the same if I'm ever back behind the bar again.
However, once I got used and verbally accosted by one of the male bartenders that works here, I stopped coming in because of his behavior.
He pestered me for months to return. Once I finally (and mistakenly) returned as a customer, this person, decided to use me AGAIN in a much more intrusive way, and verbally accost me AGAIN - this time he was full blown yelling at me in public with two witnesses standing by - both telling him he was waaaay out of line.
I'm not happy with myself about how I responded next, but I realized there wasn't much I could do to get him to stop belittling me for no reason. So finally, after nearly a year of his disrespectful treatment of me, I called him out publicly in return. From there, I avoided Trace any time I thought he might be there. But unfortunately... the majority of staff decided it was their turn to yell at me, or simply act weird, unwelcoming, and cold without understanding or even wanting to understand my side.
They blindly supported Fake's abusive, disgusting, immature, and overall just awful behavior towards me.
So the tip is... LISTEN TO WOMEN. I'm baffled I have to say this to a place that claims to be inclusive. If the folks that work here can't listen or react calmly to truths that they don't want to believe or simply don't like hearing, then... hire more thoughtful people. Truly inclusive people know how important it is to LISTEN FIRST.
Overcrowded for no reason. One of the staff is very rude and unprofessional.
Great coffee
We had our wedding rehearsal here and it could not have been more perfect! Incredible service, great drinks and excellent vibes. 10/10
The venue is okay and the beers are decent. But if management thinks it’s okay to have pro-terrorist graffiti plastered on the bathroom there is something wrong with this establishment. Worth avoiding until management clarifies their position and cleans up their facilities.
Beer is good but the summer selection is not so extensive. Mostly lighter and fruitier which is not my taste. The space is very nice.
Noticed other reviews about rude staff...I wouldn't say rude but definitely disinterested. Most craft bars have staff who are excited to chat about the beer but this seemed more transactional.

Stop with your stupid lines for beers and just make your bartenders hustle! Also they’re all cranky anyway so it won’t make it worse ?
Excellent beer and a great tap room!
Awesome place. I come often in the mornings to get coffee and it's always great. They also have a fun Wednesday trivia.
Kinda dusty
Great place in a sea of breweries across the city. A true tap room brewery with great selection and quality. Bartender seemed serviceable, but not super attentive. Also, very epic graffiti spot.
