Visiting from out of town and stumbled on this hidden gem! The brewer was great at explaining the beers on tap and their unique flavor profile. The atmosphere was very welcoming and we enjoyed the games while sipping our beers. We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in town.

The food truck seems like it's never open. And the alt-political messages can be a bit much for those of different opinion. But I am thankful for the pinball machines and the good beer.

This brewery has elevated the community with good beer, a good arcade, a good court for pickleball, a good place to take the dogs, and a good place to just sit among neighbors. I’m excited to see this place evolve. I recommend this to everyone.

Velum is an amazing space and you couldn't ask for nicer humans to run a business. I can't say enough good things about the times I've hung out here. I recently rented out Velum for an event and the staff made me feel like I was in my own home.

This venue brings to mind an interview with Jackie Chan discussing his co-star Lucy Lu: “ Is she pretty? Is she ugly? i’m not sure!” But while I figure that out, I can tell you what I really enjoyed about the venue…if you like the smell of heated hops, the beer making process going on in a large caged section of the site leaves no doubt you are in a brewery. That and the tap room where you can buy the great beer they brew. In another part of the humongous open concept design was a pickle ball court, a pinball arcade and a picnic style area where you can drink your beer and watch folks play pickle ball and pinball. I was there to scout for event space and was happy to hear they can reconfigure the majority of the space and they have risers for staging, making this spot —a chameleon! Oh did I mention the grill cheese food truck in permanent residence outside and the welcoming fire pit on the long, long dock area? After all it’s a warehouse conversion. Velum”s website doesn’t do them justice but check it out for the hours and then go do…all the stuff they have you do over there. And hey! I decided on the “looks” category …. Velum is not, not pretty!

Everything about this place is incredible except for the beer which I find has an off-putting aftertaste. However, the staff, space, arcade, events, food truck, etc are all spectacular and a departure from the usual southside scene. I hope that the beer quality will improve with time.

Velum Fermentation has made itself into a community hub. If something's happening in the South Side, Velum is probably participating in some way, whether they're hosting or providing a great beverage.While parking can be a bit confusing to find, this brewery is a must-visit in Pittsburgh if you're looking for a beverage, food, arcade, or pickleball.
