Great selection of specialty rolls. Easy to order online for takeout or enjoy your meal in their restaurant. Nice bonus that it is a byo.

My first time ordering sushi here and everything was delicious! I ordered through DoorDash and I ordered the spicy mushroom soup which was really good. The spice level for me was very tolerable not that spicy at all. I also ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy tuna roll and both were very very good. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Situated next to a CostCo, Kawa offers high end sushi, sashimi, and some Hibachi selections. Please do not drown you sushi in soy sauce before trying it. It is an insult to the chef. I've enjoyed sushi in the DC Metro are and NYC and would rank this among the best I have had.

Love their menu and the atmosphere is intimate and cozy.

We rolled in for a quick lunch and left pretty happy, even if a few things caught us off guard. The fried rice is the absolute star of the show (flavorful and not greasy at all), the miso soup is top-tier, and the hibachi steak really delivered. On the flip side, the chicken was a bit of a salt bomb, the veggies needed more crunch, and the portions definitely lean on the smaller side. Still, it's a solid spot, and we'll absolutely be back to tackle some sushi next time.

My girlfriend likes sushi and Japanese cuisine. I was never a fan and this was somewhere I’d just not venture into. I took her out and it was a very pleasant surprise! I ended up liking almost everything that came out. Especially those buns you have! I had a chicken bun and it was amazing. I ended up liking the scalloped sushi roll. And for dessert we were thinking about fried bananas but the waitress talked us into fried ice cream instead and it was the best thing ever! It was a very pleasant experience for my first time ever in a Japanese restaurant.
My outlook has changed for sure!

KAWA Japanese Cuisine Sushi on Sproul Road has great staff members that have great customer service skills. They are very attentive to customers visiting their restaurant. The food is made with care and attention to detail on instructions if a customer is taking out a certain ingredient in the food they ordered. Keep up the good work 👍 -Good Luck in 2026 & Beyond

My daughter and I go out for sushi and sashimi twice per year and we’ve returned to Kawa numerous times. Great service, food and location. The presentation of the rolls is nothing short of magnificent and we’ve made a habit of photographing it before digging in.
We hope to return soon.

I arrived just before the dinner reservation rush and was seated in a quiet corner with a view of the small waterfall. The calm music made the whole space feel really relaxing.
I started with hot tea and the gyoza soup, which was very soothing, then had the Galaxy roll (a cooked roll) afterward. The warm soup followed by the roll made for a really comforting meal.
Great spot when you want a peaceful dinner and good sushi.

SO GOOD!
The Spicy Mushroom Soup alone set me off and I knew I was leaving them a review. A variety of mushrooms they didn't skimp on, big chunks too! Bothy and a such a kick. The king crab roll i had was great too. 10 stars. thank you!
