On a lone road must turn around after viewing
I just wish it were open to the public!!! It's a really cool piece of history and architecture. There is no parking unless you are renting the shoe. There is a small business right across the street where I'd recommend parking your car if you want to get out and look around.
There is a fence around the Haines Shoe House property, no sidewalk, and a bit of a steep hill on the side that shares the road, so walk carefully.
Unless you have a reservation, do not bother traveling there. The owner won't let you on the property. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission put a historical marker there, which means it is a site of public interest, and you'd think the owner would be kind enough to at least let people pull up onto the way too large parking lot for a rental property of this size, but alas, they are not. Specifically took a detour to our destination to get there and all we got were kids muddy shoes from having to walk in a neighboring field to get a good picture. Folks in this part of PA are really nice and accommodating. At least, most are.
We stayed one night and it was really fun. It was beautifully restored and I especially loved the period kitchen with original cabinets. Such a special place and a great way to enjoy a piece of US roadside history.
Photo as you pass or stop in. If you are headed west is on the left side of the highway immediately after the bridge. Keep an eye out. If you are headed east it’s in the right side of highway 30 just before the bridge (Shoe House Road) and you can see it from the highway.
It was built it 1948 and if you were in your honeymoon or a senior you could stay for free.
Now a private residence, access is restricted. An interesting programmatic architectural building, but out of context in its current status.
You can't enter the property.
Such a unique building with fun history!
Unique B&B call to book
A house in the shape of a shoe. Magical.

There was an old woman who lived in shoe....
Drove by there on the way to York as a child. Channel 8 was nearby.
Fun to see but have to rent
This place is cute, weird, appealing, and pretty interesting. Definitely worth a quick stop just for the novelty. It’s a shoe-shaped house, which makes it fun and unusual. It’s a bit disappointing that you can’t go inside or that it isn’t set up as a museum or attraction. Still, I’m glad they at least let you take pictures from outside the fence. Just a heads-up though, there’s no real place to park, so stopping for a photo feels a little awkward. But honestly, it’s worth it for the smiles and laughs.
Nice place but it has been gated off and you can't go inside. It is a hotel now.
