COWS Queen St. is a celebrated ice cream shop on Prince Edward Island, widely regarded as having the most delicious ice cream in the Atlantic provinces. The ice cream is incredibly creamy, rich, and bursting with flavor, made right on the island. Every scoop tastes homemade, perfectly balanced, and not too sweet. The shop offers a wide array of imaginative flavors, from classics like Wowie Cowie and Cookie Dough to adventurous options like Cownadian Maple Crunch, Chunky Chocolate Mint, and Fluff N’ Udder. The flavors demonstrate legitimate imagination, with perfect taste, texture, and temperature. Descriptions are available on the cooler labels to help with choosing.
The waffle cones are freshly made, buttery crisp, and often rolled in jimmies, filling the shop with a wonderful smell. The staff is incredibly fast, friendly, and helpful, providing superb customer service and professionalism. The location also sells a lot of non-ice cream merchandise, including souvenirs and snacks, which are much cheaper compared to other local shops. While the square footage dedicated to merch might give a tourist trap impression, COWS is the real deal. Housed in a historic pharmacy with original woodwork and a tin roof, it is a fun, nostalgic stop and a true PEI institution. Many say no trip to Charlottetown is complete without a visit.
