“Had a very nice lunch here. The food was really delicious. It just took a very long time before we got our food. The atmosphere is great by the way. Looks very cozy and attractive with wicker lamps with moss and plants on them. That may sound crazy, but when you see it, you'll understand what I mean.“

“I really liked the hummus, and had the Asian wrap twice, my wife had the special, which didn’t live up to expectations, but the restaurant justifies 4 stars due to the difficulties of finding places in Madeira. I would have preferred more options, particularly a dessert.“

“Restaurante Informal serves some of the most tasty and delicious food I've come across in Funchal, and the charming and cozy atmosphere just adds to the experience. We've gone through most of their menu during our stay on Madeira in February, and along with some amazing hiking experiences, the food from Informal is still being brought up as one of the highlights of our visit!“

“Very tasty homemade food, amazing service, lots of locals who eat here. Very affordable. It’s a kanteen with good food, you can choose between meat and fish plate. Plates are big and tasty. The service is fabulous, the lady saw us struggling a bit with our hungry and grumpy toddler and asked what can she eat outside of menu. In the end our daughter ate very tasty sandwich that wasn’t on the menu and as well her fish plate. Desserts are really nice as well. So much better than a street away with all the tourist places.“

We have been served by Valter which professionally explained all the details about food, drinks etc and gave us a hint of what we can expect. “We have never had such delicious Indian food! Perfectly seasoned and well-filled dishes. We had Aloo Gobi and Paneer Matar with vegetable Beryani, highly recommended. For €30 pp we were done including drinks.
Vegetarian options: Indian food always has many vegetarian options and that is no different here. Our main course (2nd photo) was completely vegetarian and so were the samosas in the first photo.“

“I chose an absolutely delicious vegetable lasagna dish then opted for a passion fruit mousse which was a real treat. The other members of the group enjoyed a bluefin tuna served on potatoes in oil.

“The best overall restaurant we have ever dinned. The food was great, had the beef on stone and on this occasion the best vino Verde. The service and the singing was more than we have ever expected. This place is the one "must not miss" when on this beautiful island.“

“Informal restaurant in the center that offers genuine cuisine mainly based on the catch of the day.
Excellent welcome and rabbits from Mario, owner and manager of the place, who with great joy animates Taverna da Sè with the help of his very faithful assistant George.
Reservation is recommended as it is an intimate venue.
Good quality/price ratio“

“This place was my favorite place we ate in all of Madeira and even Lisbon included. The service was great and very fast! The food was so good every time we ate there with new options every day. We kept coming back and it's a great walk to the restaurant, the surrounding shops are so cute. Honestly the quality of the meat and even everything down to the seasonings and sauces are very unique and delicious. The desserts are to die for especially the cheesecake and triple chocolate cake! From what I understand it's a small family owned business and the women that run it are so full of life and kind! An absolutely wonderful experience and I could not recommend it more!“

“Not a place I would normally visit if not google reviews:)
But I would miss a real treat. It looks and tastes like prepared with love, home food.
No big pressure on presentation.
Very pleasant service, especially by owner but not only. Cook was singing in the kitchen.
Espada was one of the better ones I ate on the island, especially with banana.
Desserts like you would get them from your grandma kitchen. If she was Portuguese;)
And the white Sangria… very dangerously good.“

“Delicious and at a very good price, highly recommended.
We went yesterday to eat before returning to Spain from our trip, and the truth is that we were pleasantly surprised. The menu was €8 and something, and included a fairly powerful dish and coffee. We ordered spaghetti carbonara, chicken poke, a chicken wrap and for dessert a Nutella brownie. Everything was very very good, I personally liked it a lot, especially the brownie that was clearly homemade, which was very appreciated. In the end we came out to about €10 per person.
The woman who attended us was very kind and friendly. We asked him some questions about the letter, and although he admitted that it was new, he was concerned about answering all the questions we had.
If I ever return to Madeira I will go to the place again without hesitation.“

“Super delicious sushi! Also something different with strawberries or pineapple. Had 32 pieces of the boss's choice for €32.50, fair price! The sushi is wrapped in very little rice, so it's not as filling as you might be used to. The spring rolls to start with are only 2 pieces each, but they are homemade.“

“We were looking for a place with a reasonable offering for meat eaters and vegetarians. Through our research we specifically looked for this shop, which - because it was on the 1st floor and had no tables on the street - was easy to miss. A relatively small operation with exceptionally good food. Small problem: we had three young ladies between 12 and 18 with us, and the description of the dishes ("sophisticated cuisine") was a bit confusing. There's no place to order a meat skewer with a mountain of fries, but in the end everyone found a dish and none of them disappointed, in fact most of them were excellent. In the end, everyone had an excellent quality starter, main course and dessert, and at a more than fair price. A clear recommendation if you want to skip the standard dishes.“

“An Unforgettable Dining Experience
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Real Canoa, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The food was nothing short of fantastic—each dish was well-prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour.
The staff at Real Canoa truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Their friendliness and attentiveness added a personal touch to the evening, making me feel right at home. They made my birthday celebration particularly special by bringing out a cake and playing "Happy Birthday," creating a memorable moment that I will cherish.
The ambience of the restaurant is another highlight. The elegant decor, coupled with the soothing live music playing in the background, created a perfect setting for a delightful dining experience. It's a place where you can relax, enjoy great food, and soak in the wonderful atmosphere.
Moreover, the food is not only delicious but also offers great value for money. It's rare to find a place that excels in both quality and affordability, but Real Canoa manages to do just that. Whether you're looking for a special night out or just a great meal, this restaurant is a fantastic choice.
I would definitely recommend Real Canoa to anyone in the area. It's an amazing experience that you won't want to miss!“

“Mandatory stop during a walk along the promenade.
Beautiful views of the sea.
As for the staff, don't expect miracles, they look tired, which I don't blame them for.
If you arrive at lunchtime but don't want food, just coffee and drinks, the staff will probably seat you somewhere with a less attractive view.
But beauty is everywhere, so don't stress and relax.“

“The people are great and the venue is very relaxing. At least the lower terrace. The upper floor is a bit noisy due to being right at the street. So we recommend the downstairs area.
The 3 course menus are inexpensive and you have a lot of great options. The food while good is not best in class. We still visited 3 times during our stay and will come back when we come back to Madeira.“

“Beautiful, well deserves the five star all around. Food is not only great, they are beautifully presented, as you can see from the photo. Outside is very casual if you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the town while you eat, the inside is very nice classy dining experiences
Staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, they lent us a charger for my phone which was life saver (for my wife who as a result spared my life…)
Food was very delicate in taste not too strong but perfectly balanced.
We had the famous Scabbard fish lightly fried with tropical sauce (and fried banana) was just salty enough but not too salty. Of course if you like salty you could add.
Octopus risotto was also fantastic. Loved that each dish had flower decor.
We ordered apple crumble by recommendation, tbh I didn’t have such high expectations, because how good can you make an apple crumble right? But it was very very good even for a Brit.
Highly recommended, really Michelin class imo“

“There were 9 of us (including 3 teenagers) and we ate well. The impeccable service, the Caesar salad, the requejao/spinach quiche, the sardines served with vegetables were delicious. Well located in the center of Funchal with a large covered terrace and we had little breezes which did us good“
