We had the pleasure of dining at Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal and overall our experience was almost flawless. The sommelier was exceptionally competent and accompanied us perfectly through the evening with an impressive selection of wines. This was my first time eating at a Michelin star restaurant and it did not disappoint! The taste and presentation of the food was beyond my expectations, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and attentive.
There was one negative though, and I think it came down to lack of communication/transparency about drink prices. We were asked if we wanted to start the meal with a glass of champagne, and it turned out that the two glasses were over €50 each. If we knew the price...read full review

Il Gallo D'Oro offers a unique dining experience with playfully presented dishes that are a feast for the eyes. The kitchen's creations are consistently very good dishes, all of which tasted excellent, with the quality and freshness of the ingredients clearly noticeable. The team is super committed and attentive, and the service is attentive, friendly and always professional. The sommelier is exceptionally competent and accompanied guests perfectly through the evening with an impressive selection of wines. The atmosphere and decoration are not that original, nothing special, with no open kitchen live cooking. While the bread selection and accompanying spreads may be overwhelming, Il Gallo D'Oro provides a memorable culinary experience that thoroughly enjoyed.
