“All the food we received was fantastic, we got generous portions for very friendly prices. The service was very nice and frienly. This was one of the best restaurants that we have visited in Madeira during our one-week trip. I recommend this place to everyone.“

“We had the pleasure of dining at Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal and overall our experience was almost flawless. The sommelier was exceptionally competent and accompanied us perfectly through the evening with an impressive selection of wines. The service was attentive, friendly and always professional, which made our evening very pleasant.
The presentation of the food was of the highest standard – each dish was served with great attention to detail and was a real feast for the eyes. The kitchen presented us with consistently very good dishes, all of which tasted excellent. The quality and freshness of the ingredients were clearly noticeable, and the combinations were well thought out and harmonious.
Despite all these positive aspects, we were missing a certain highlight, a special kick that we are used to from other restaurants of this class. Maybe it was that last spark of creativity or that one dish that absolutely blew us away. Nevertheless, our visit to Il Gallo d'Oro was a culinary experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, an excellent restaurant that just falls short of perfection. We'd love to come back!“

“The Armazém do Sal restaurant in Funchal is located in a typical alley and offers a rustic and elegant setting. it is recognized for its high-quality cuisine, with fish, seafood, meat and pasta dishes, as well as tempting desserts. The servers are friendly and very attentive. I would just put a caveat on the quantities.
Parking: It is difficult to get around Funchal. Paid parking is recommended
Kid-friendliness: It is suitable for children there are special menus for them
Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs in the restaurant.“

“On our mini-moon to Madeira we booked our final meal to be at Villa Cipriani and it was a beautiful spot to enjoy.
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and sunset in Madeira was beautifully romantic and picture-esque.
The service from the team was exceptional from beginning to end. The food itself was exquisite and you could taste how fresh it was.
Highly recommend“

“Als Vorspeise hatten wir Bruschetta und waren begeistert, dass wir eine art Baguette bekamen was selbstgemacht aussah mit Spinat und das traditionelle Bruschetta in nichts nachstand. Auch die Pizza war Mega lecker. Fluffiger Rand aber kein Veganer Käse Updated from previous review on 2024-09-19“

“Amazing food. Unfortunately the deal doesn't provide a good selection of wines. They just provide house white or red after a small sparkling wine. They should provide dessert wine and a selection over the course of the meal. Not just house wines.
Last year Chris' food quality was similar but the alcohol selection in the past was loads better.“

“I remember it being a good restaurant, with good service and, above all, good distance between tables. However, I no longer remember the dishes we ate or how much we paid. The food was good, as meals in Funchal are generally good for a restaurant of this level, and the price was higher, as prices are generally higher in restaurants of this level in Funchal.“

“We were looking for a place with a reasonable offering for meat eaters and vegetarians. Through our research we specifically looked for this shop, which - because it was on the 1st floor and had no tables on the street - was easy to miss. A relatively small operation with exceptionally good food. Small problem: we had three young ladies between 12 and 18 with us, and the description of the dishes ("sophisticated cuisine") was a bit confusing. There's no place to order a meat skewer with a mountain of fries, but in the end everyone found a dish and none of them disappointed, in fact most of them were excellent. In the end, everyone had an excellent quality starter, main course and dessert, and at a more than fair price. A clear recommendation if you want to skip the standard dishes.“

“The best asparagus risotto with mushrooms that I have ever eaten. We were impressed by the menu in 5 languages - the so-called special menu with 5 courses at a great price is a very great offer. The atmosphere outside, in the middle of the alley with the beautifully painted doors, is very nice. We'd love to come back!
Vegetarian options: The special menu is also vegetarian - which is not always easy to find in Funchal.“

“We got a place for six people without a reservation. Unfortunately, the high chair that we would have needed for our baby was reserved for another family all evening, but they didn't use it from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. For this reason there are only four stars and a deduction for service, even though David was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was a little disturbed when the boss reprimanded the staff and we had our table right next door. The food was excellent and the price/performance ratio was right. We'd love to come back and reserve the high chair next time ?“

“A small restaurant in Funchal, with quality. The boss has 2 more? Restaurants the Kampo and the Theos, I think. The kitchen is open with a counter where you can also eat as an individual. The dishes were imaginative and delicious. Even things that you might not like are prepared in such a way that they taste good. The main course grouper with seafood rice was AMAZING. Super delicious and we continued to eat even though we were full for a long time because the taste was really good... Thank you that there are still restaurants that cook fresh and good food in high season... It's a bit small but still great.
Great service and child friendly... THANK YOU
Kid-friendliness: Good“

“Restaurante Informal serves some of the most tasty and delicious food I've come across in Funchal, and the charming and cozy atmosphere just adds to the experience. We've gone through most of their menu during our stay on Madeira in February, and along with some amazing hiking experiences, the food from Informal is still being brought up as one of the highlights of our visit!“

“This is a real little gem in the heart of Funchal! It can be tricky to find in one of the little shopping centres (Arcadas Sao Francisco) close to the Municipal Gardens (Jardim Minicipal do Funchal). A lovely small menu with yummy vegetarian and vegan food centred around falafel and hummus dishes. They are mainly open for lunch and during the afternoon but once a month on Friday they are also open for dinner in the evening and the atmosphere is just wonderful.“

“We visited Avista three times during our thirteen days in Madeira and enjoyed every visit, to the extent that we did not recognise the negative comments in some other reviews. On each occasion our meals were outstanding (each course was stunning but my last meal of beef tartare, tuna on the josper with barbecued pineapple and mashed potato (inspired by Joel Robuchon), and crème brûlée was simply stunning. The service was also outstanding and while it is probably unfair to identify one person, I will - our favourite darts player merits special attention and we look forward to hearing how he did in the nationals during our next visit.
So, to put it simply, Avista is stunning and unequivocally our favourite restaurant.“
